Having to open them before a shot will be a pain
Also; it should get the ability to strafe.
That way we can go "whoop whoop whoop"

That depends. XL400 Banshee can torso twist and disengage from combat really fast.
Can XL400 KC have dual AC20?

Why wait until then, if it causes trouble? Mechs with doors dont suffer a penalty with them open, they have a bonus when they're closed. So just leave them open and get 'only' normal arm armor values.

Ya give us the chance to keep them open in the mech bay
And yes, one button is a pain.
The old unjamming technique was one button and a dev broke his keyboard over it

Can XL400 KC have dual AC20?
You'll have about 40 tons free with a 400XL. If you can't wreck face with 40 tons of weapons you need to stay home.
You know what's awesome though?
Std 360 will leave you about 35 tons free and that's probably as big as you'll get. 64.2kph, 2x AC20s, 2 MLs, 6 tons of ammo.
The XL360 will leave you about 51 tons of weapons free. If you can't **** the face off a Dire Wolf with 51 tons of weapons and almost 50% more speed then, again... stay home.
The King Crab is going to change the landscape of IS drop decks. 2xAC5/2xUAC5 and an ERLL with plenty of ammo? Why yes sir, yes you may. You want to try a gauss+ERPPC on your LT/LA and UAC5/AC5 pair on the RA? I applaud the creative abomination you seek to unleash good sir, carry on.
Much like the Dire it's going to be a source of truly, truly stupid amounts of damage especially at that 300-500m sweet spot and it's going to accommodate both long and short range designs. Unless they totally nix the standard hardpoint inflation (in which case.... why?!?!?) it's going to be a phenomenal mech and fit as a staple into the IS assault lineup.
We need an IS Timber Wolf. A brilliant 'best in class' killer. STD for brawling AC20s, XL for long range/mixed DPS builds, it'll have a lot of solid options. No point in XLing a Atlas; you don't have the arm hardpoints save on a Boars Head.
The Big Snipper should be a rampaging beast and a stone cold ************* killer of a mech. I'm not expecting to be disappointed.

TBF it can still equip Dual AC20s on top of 360 Std engine--making it a faster and deadlier brawler than the Whale, so some glaring weakness must be included. I have a feeling the protruding parts will shrink in the final product, though...

Hey, the Warhawk's hitboxes actually aren't that bad...
But to be fair, part of the WHK's durability comes from its abnormally large torso twist radius (beats the majority of heavies and some mediums in that characteristic).

Because, it is a Old Star League mech, and not a Faction mech. Which makes it lost tech. So technically, nobody in the game should have it. Kerensky Piloted one, if I'm not mistaken.

Kerensky was an Orion pilot almost exclusively. Protector is actually his hero variant just as Yen Lo Wang is Justin and Kai Allard's
While Cosara’s main KGC production line on Northwind was destroyed early in the First Succession War,General Motors continued to produce a down-graded variant without FF and CASE for the Federated Suns. Cosara's secondary production line on Mars was occupied and by Comstar and used to equip their own security forces (and allegedly the Draconis Combine ).
If I had to guess at variants I figure that we'll see the folowing two for sure...
- KGC-0000 GM's Succession Wars era variant w/ single heatsinks, standard armor, dual AC 20s, a Large Laser and a LRM 15.
- KGC-001 Comguard Variant w/ XL 300 Engine, Swaps the dual AC 20s for dual Gauss, the large laser for a Large Pulse and adds 2 SSRM 2s.
- KGC-000 Original SLDF variant, same as Successor State variant only with FF armor and CAS
- KGC-010 Alternate SLDF variant developed alongside the initial -000 production run but equipped with 2 LB-10Xs and 2 PPCs in place of the AC20s and Large Laser.
- KGC-000B Royal Variant, same as the KGC-000 but with DHS, and ArtemisIV.
ETA:
I'm betting on the, KGC-0000, KGC-001, KGC-010, as the three of them together offer the widest variation in hardpoints and initial load outs. The KGC-000, KGC-0000, and KGC-000B being essentially identical.

Yes it is originally a star league design but General Motors continued to produce a down-graded variant without FF and CASE for the Federated Suns all though the succession wars. Comstar also maintained their own detachment of them with all the advanced tech.
If I had to guess at variants I figure that we'll see the folowing two for sure...
- KGC-0000 GM's Succession wars variant w/ dual AC 20s, single heatsinks, and standard armor,
- KGC-001 Comguard Variant w/ dual Gauss and SSRMs.
- KGC-000 Original SLDF variant, same as Successor State variant only with FF armor and CASE
- KGC-000B Royal Variant, same as above but with ArtemisIV and DHS as well.
- KGC-010 Alternate SLDF variant, with 2 LBX 10s and a PPC
000 is the default "classic" variant and thus like the reward model too Founder/Phoenix/Invasion style, 0000 has to imply hardpoint inflation/restrictions to separate it from the 000 and the reset of the variants are out on timeline reasons (Remaining SLDF variants are Royals and virtually unknown/unavailable to everybody and Clanbuster is 3052/Battle of Tukayyid.
Enforcer shows PGI aren't oppose to inventing variants, making it less assured they will breach timeline for a third variant. Problem is what would they come up with if so...
