Yeah sounds like the Cataphract is still reigning. I got a Dual Gauss (or lrm boat, or dual ac20) Jager, and thats fine, but those times you get killed and want to hope into another heavy was looking for a backup.

3D sounds the way to go.

It's a solid mech. Heck, all the Cataphracts. Even the 2X which got some new life with the SRM HSR fix.

Cataphract 4x was my choice. 4x AC5, 180 rounds.

First round went well lol

Cant wait to drop an XL in, get 2 med lasers, more speed, and elite this thing lol

The guns not showing is lame.

With the queue low in the heavy department I need to get another one to munchkin my wait times.

Whats the meta like out there with the quirks? What heavy is teh best bang for teh buck.

Is this a trick question? Even PGI says the Timberwolf is the best Heavy by far. Especially in the solo queue where the most LRMs win.

With the current Quirks, the K2 has a nebulous CT that blisters really really fast.

The other Catapults are OK, and I love the look, but no.

You might get away with the C4, as it has buffs to everything that's not its legs or head.

Jager is pretty XL friendly now with the ST buffs, and it's ballistic capability is far better. Plus, take into account that the JM6-A does everything that Catapults can do? Yeah.

... Hilariously, Orions show up on Smurfy as having no Quirks. None. But regardless... I don't see many, and when I do, they don't seem to work out that well. It's a smaller Atlas that dies faster. Not seeing it.

Been hearing good things about the T-bolt though. And The 'Phracts are still pretty good.

Just IS or all heavies?

Timberwolf is the best bar none.

edit: reading the title helps

Yeah, Timby is clearly the best heavy and always will be. No big surprise there. But I was looking for the best IS heavy.

Cataphract was a solid choice. Going through these for basics wont be painful.

depends how clan quirks are handled.

if clan mechs get -1 quirk for jumpjets, -1 quirk for endosteel, -1 quirk for ferrofibrous, etc... then the timberwolf could get hit pretty hard.

I have had some very successful games in it, we used to run this style of build in the Catapult-C1 (4xMPL 2xSSRM2) but when they introduced engine limitations the build wasn't as viable. The Jester & Quirks have resurrected it though :)

That build looks like a fuckton of fun...!

I have to agree with K05 - that Master Blaster Jester looks like an absolute.... Blast. I might pick one up - if I find myself in a non-hating-PGI mood.

Having a ton of fun with the Thunderbolts these days. Haven't tried all the variants since the patch but the 5SS is kicking ass.

Don't play IS mechs much since I am going to be focusing on Clan Wolf for CW but the T-bolts got some really good enhancements from the quirks. Did some testing in the testing grounds though and they are looking solid if built around the quirks. Honestly they might be better than the CTF-3D now.

2 Large Pulse, 5 Med Pulse is a hell of an alpha and I was able to do 2 back to back alphas without overheating on Terra Therma. And with the MPlas range boost you can poke out to 660 meters. Its a monster...

Just fyi, if you use endo you can fit the max 255 engine, max armor, and throw in a JJ for good measure:

If you want speed, I don't think the Dragon is the answer. Take the CTF-1X. Insert a STD335 engine. Yes, STD, not XL. Equip 5 Medium lasers. Equip AC10. It runs hot, but you have the speed to retreat and cool down when needed.

Exterminate.

Cataphracts for Ballistics or Ballistics Laser/Mix.

Pick up T-Bolts if you wanna get some WubWub.

Jagers if you wanna Gauss Snipe (better placement)

Orions if you want to be disappointed in 75 tons.

3XUAC5 JM-DD(I think it has the quirks) is a beast
so is the JM-S(I think) with the AC2 + AC5 buffs...toss on a cooldown and you're ripping armor off like a DW...pretty much 14DPS PPFLD

I don't know if there is necessarily a best but rather most forgiving? Clans would be the timberwolf and for innersphere for me a cataphract but lots of people do well in jaegers.

That's my favourite mech by far. I have two, one with an xl and one without. Both have medium lasers though, the standard is just really slow. If and when I run out of ammo the damage is usually around the 1000 mark... That's if my team doesn't kill everyone before I get there, so I usually use the xl, just need to stand beside something more intimidating so they target your teammate and ignore your sweet ride

That is a tough one. All around good would have to be the Catapult, has lasers and missiles on most builds but also comes with a variant with ballistic slots instead of missiles. Has Jump jets and can just overall be a fantastic mech in most stituations.
For outright damage thats a competition between the Jaeger and the Cataphract. Jaegers higher mounted weapons are fantastic for peaking, but it is basically just a wall. The Cataphract can mount more weapons, but they are generally all really low slung weapons. I'd say they are both equal, they are different takes on the same general builds.

If we are including clan heavies in this competition, then hands down the best is the timberwolf. Lots of weapons, armor, speed and can do pretty much everything the catapult, jaeger, and cataphract can only better.

Orions require a good pilot but are generally out classed by other heavies. Summoner is restricted because of the JJs or it might be able to run some good builds, The maddog is basically just a catapult in almost every way really, missle boat support with laser backups.

The rest of the heavies are pretty much garbage in general.

In terms of heros, I would have to go with the Ilya. just punches so hard even assaults retreat. The Jester is decent and the Firebrand is equally as good, but the Ilya pretty much outshines everything around it in my opinion.
