3D sounds the way to go.
The main reason for this, is because unlike Cataphracts and Jagers, Orions are a bit too generalist.
It's very hard for a 75T mech to run Energy and Ballistics and Missiles and a STD engine and still have enough speed to not be a slug.
The Timber Wolf plays like the heaviest heavy. It can specialize it has all the benefits of being 75 tons.
The Orion on the other hand is like an under tonned assault mech.
If the variants that have 2 ballistics had them spread across two different components - this would likely be a very different conversation.
So Cataphracts, with their fairly narrow focus on Ballistics & Energy in some combination tend to specialize better, their builds are more streamlined.
Their Ballistic hard points are spread out, so you can combine some of the larger ones together without requiring a STD engine.

That build looks like a fuckton of fun...!
Here is the original build, I have been taking it so far today and I find it survives a lot better then the Jester. The CPLT-C1 has a much better torso twist then the Jester.

It is a LOT of fun and a deadly light hunter.

But for IS, Cataphract is still the king, but Orion/Jager can have their moments.
Tend to agree with this.
Timberwolf for clanners, Cataphract for IS. Next in line for the IS would be the boom box that is the Jager!

Before engine restrictions I put a 350 XL on it and it ran around 100 kph.
