I guess I'm talking primarily about Clan mechs, but I may have overlooked some Inner Sphere mechs too. And I'm not talking about Hero mechs.

Basically, when the Timber Wolf is available for C-bills, my plan is to only buy 1 Timber Wolf. The TBR-Prime. And I'm going to keep its stock build as long as I own it. But this got me thinking:

What other stock mechs can be used in the current meta without being too handicapped due to lack of ammo, upgrades, etc? There's so many mechs in this game right now, there's probably a number of them I can't think of.

Here's what I've got so far:
  • WHK-Prime
  • DWF-A
  • WHK-B (maybe. SRM+NARC is a bad combo in MWO)
  • SMN-D (ya, rly!)
  • SCR-Prime
  • SCR-C (maybe)
  • KFX-D
Honourable mention: NVA-Prime, KFX-S, ADR-Prime, ADR-A

Protector stock isn't that bad.

I mentioned it in the OP, but I'm not talking about Hero mechs. Or Champion mechs, even. Especially since most of them are just invented and kitted out by PGI to work with the current meta. I know some Hero mechs are taken directly from lore, but that's only partially true for some and not true at all for most of them.

I guess the Protector stock build is directly from Sarna, being Kerensky's mech? I didn't check. But whatever the case may be, I'm looking primarily for standard mechs.

Catapult-C1 is probably one of the best stock mechs for IS. Some solid LRM's backed by 4 mlas and JJ's. It is devastating in stock mech wednesdays and with a few tweaks is pretty good in general play.

SCR-Prime is one of the few that could be consider in an optimized state stock. All the Timber Wolfs are good stock (ran the first 5 matches in my stock just for the hell of it and all did well).

K2 is decent. Stormcrow C is really good imo. Adder prime is good, if you play it light a clan mech and not a IS light mech.

Yeah, but stock it has 1 ton ammo per launcher and SHS. Pretty much anything SHS is not very good stock.

Thunderbolt 9SE comes stock with double sinks and jump jets, that alone puts it in the running for being good straight out of the box. (EDIT: And probably better than the CTF-3D, due to the 'phract's mismatched cannons.)

KFX-Prime isn't bad, although no ECM. q.q

SCR-D is better than SCR-C. The LRM placement in the arms is SUPER WEIRD though and makes it a little hard to use.

DWF-Prime and Nova-Prime don't suck. DWF-Prime needs weapon group adjustment before I can use it at all, but after that it's decent.

I don't even really know what the stock builds for IS mechs are... there are some good Trial (C) mechs but you said those don't count. I guess the Stalker-3H stock was surprisingly nasty with those LRM20s? CPLT-C1 is LRM15 and medium lasers, which is more or less how I still use it?

Inner Sphere

COM-2D
HBK-4G
HBK-4J
TBT-5N

Clan

Uller A
Mad Cat Prime
Mad Cat B
Masakari Prime

A few others but those are my favorites.

I'd skip it unless you are buying three to get it elited.

The Cute Fox shouldn't be on that list because of its paper-thin stock armor.

If you're going to buy a TBR and only one, get the C for the CT energy hardpoint.

For mechs with devastating stock loadouts look no further than the KGC-000.... on Dec 16th. (PGI PLS)

I actually have to agree here. Getting the mech elited is so important to the performance of a mech that you might want to buy something a whole heck of alot cheaper and get three of them.

Keep in mind, the Timber Wolf is one of the most expensive mechs in the game. I think they will run you about 16 million C-bills for one of them. You could for example darn near by 3 Kit Foxes for that amount.

Its a light. You should not be standing out in the open or pushing. You wait for the whales and wolves to pop out, then when they are getting splattered you come out and start ripping off limbs and coring CTs, then you go back and hide when your whale does.

That is the code of the Clan Light!

Actually I was saving up for a dire whale, but decided to give the kit foxes a try, I managed to buy all 3 with my money. Whales are like 17 million. So yea you can buy 2 and just be short on the third.

18 CT armor and 16 leg armor on the stock build isn't exactly impressive. Basically anything that looks at a stock KFX can instagib it or at least cripple it. Even other light mechs.

I had no problems with the stock Kit foxes, the prime is arguably the worst.

The summoner D is actually quite fantastic as a stock mech http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b#i=189&l=stock

I just wanted a backup lrm on mine so I dropped the heatsinks and mgs and lowered the targeting computer http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=189&l=54bb5d8b504bb8273716d32c376ac786f1d37cd3
