Except we're still forced to play 3/3/3/3 irrelevant of our tonnage so...

About 7 hours into the challenge and I'm getting close to the coffee mug that I already won last weekend!

As others have noted this one requires way too much time!!

This challenge has literally turned into an ECM/LURM spam. I haven't seen anything else run. Absolutely ridiculous.

Uhg... Not a fan of tonnage restrictions in particular when they seem so random. I mean seriously... 2 players get 200 tons but add a third and it is only 220. <_< Hope people have fun, but I'm not interested.

Come play with me Hippy! My wife Bascha2010 and I are going to be on at 7:00 PM Mountain Time USA tonight if you are interested. =]

Can someone help me here? I'm looking through all the legal stuff and dev statements on the site...I can't seem to find the part where they say that everyone is entitled to a reward every weekend. And there must be something somewhere that says every tournament and every challenge will be geared so that it fits every player's desire. No? Yeah....I couldn't find it either.

I just don't get all this crying about the tournament being too hard and the rewards not worth it. If the rewards don't appeal to you, don't go for them. Play like you normally do. Nothing is stopping you.

My group opted to play under the weight rules. Not because we wanted a coffee cup, but because it was different....fun. And the matches we played last night were better than average. We had much faster search times, easily a minute or more faster. And the matches were more even on average. Practically no 12-0 or 12-1 stomps either way. Just given those improvements I would call this a success. And if we get a coffee cup in the process... great. But in the end, we were just playing the game because we like to play the game. Not for prizes or awards. Because we like to pretend that we are driving big stompy robots and blasting the hell out things.

For what it's worth, I do think the bar is set too high for the rewards given. But that's my personal opinion. Partially because I don't care for cockpit items. Haven't bought any, don't expect that I will. Some people like them, that's fine, but they aren't for me. Added to that, the rewards this weekend also seem anemic when compared to the Halloween extravaganza. But people are delusional if they think that will be the new norm. The Halloween event was great, but I am viewing that like the Steam Holiday sale. Enjoy it while it lasts because there are fantastic great deals....but don't expect those prices come mid January.

So try to let go of all that entitled crying about "this tournament isn't fun". Don't play it then. Just play the game. And if that just isn't fun anymore.....well then you have choices to make, don't you.

That was well spoken! I have to admit that I actually liked how you presented that. Now I can't wait to line you up in my crosshairs! J/K Thanks for the proverbial slap back to reality. =]

Group only challenge, but there is no way in game to find a group. I must first seek out websites or use a VOIP program. Way to alienate a good majority of the solo players. . .

Also, every match should count since only about 50-65% will qualify at 140 points. That's 100+ games for the average player...

Teamspeak. You need teamspeak. And here's a place you can find groups.

The LCAF Hub. housesteiner.com is our teamspeak address. No password. Just hop into the 'looking for group' channel and someone will snatch you up in due time! (Be patient, when in drops, group leaders can't watch the 'looking for group' channel, so they might not see you right away.)

To get a point you must
  • and you must achieve the minimum score of 140 as an individual

Hello Newman,

Some constructive feed back for this time frame unrealistic challenge.

Halve the challenge goal post. Your looking at 160 games if you get some really "asleep" groups.

Also, it is a group challenge, so why is it based on one individual's score? I'm sure some PGI dude can devise a formula.

Finally if you have a "corker" of an individual game, you should give 1 point for each increment of 140. eg 140 = 1 point, 280 = 2 points, 420 = 3 points and so on.

eg this game I should get 3 points.

21 games and I have 12 so far. I consider myself a top tier 1 on 1 pilot, but in a group challenge, "You never know, what your gonna get."

It's fine if they're going to do a group challenge; but it's not fine that it's a a group challenge that not many people actually are enough to do. Consequently, even if you do want to try it it's difficult unless you already have an active unit.

Comparing this group challenge to the last few lance challenge weekends, the TS servers were practically packed for those. Today? not so much.

It isn't that group challenges are bad ideas. Group challenges that very few people weant to participate in _IS_ a bad idea.

140 is to high and does not make sense if its a group challenge. but its free stuff and you are not forcing me to do it so hope you get info you are looking to get. I would rather just buy my hamster wheel and wub horn then grind and double check to make sure weights are clear and 3/3/3/3 is good etc.

Yeah, just gonna say two things.

1. I don't think necessarily that the score is too high. I do think you'd see a lot less of LRMageddon is you increased damage value from 15 Damage = 1 Point to something more like 10 Damage = 1 point. 50% boost means a much higher liklihood of attaining that 140 without having to resort to using LRMs to spread random assists everywhere and hoping that the matchmaking gods tilted elo in your favour. You can do really well and solo three players and still end up below 140 because kills are only worth 10 points because... reasons I guess? I understand why they're not worth more than assists but at least make them equal to assists, and you'd see less players resorting to LRMboating.

2. I think 20 matches for each challenge tier in group queue might be a tad excessive. You can match up twenty matches in solo queue way faster than you ever will in group queue, not to mention the time spent by people who normally drop solo trying to group up with people with varying success. I could've gotten my challenges completed twice as fast in solo queue than here, due to shorter wait times when finding a match, less roflstomps, no need to wait on everybody else to have their chassis in order so you can begin searching for a match, etc.

It's still dumb to have tonnage limits and no in game indicator for your group.

Yeah easy with a few mechs, but not 10+. Yeah yeah I can't add I know.

Im a PUG and play solo 99% of the time. If the rewards were like Halloween event I would have tried group Q, if it automatically grouped you I would have selected option to join event. Neither being available I played PUG Q .

Finished. It was long but with the right group of people very enjoyable. With a bad bunch it was long and painful.

Strong points: I saw that PGI science working! Matches with 0 assaults, 3 heavies at best and many mediums and few lights were the best matches I had. The enemy team had assaults but it didn't really help them so I guess the assault domination is somehow over. Fun factor was very high. Also, the hamster. Perhaps next challenge we get something to feed him with.

Weak points: If you don't have friends then you have a problem. Also if your friends like to do Mechlab for 5 minutes after every match you can't really make those 60 points before tuesday.

It's been interesting in the group queue. Almost no assaults. Games where my team had 8 mediums. Sadly, occasionally some really badly balanced tonnage because one team didn't care about the challenge. Had a team with 3 Locusts one match and got rolled.

The weight felt restrictive, and slowed down drops while people did math at times. Playing assaults was generally unwelcome, particularly the 100 tonnes.

Games in general were faster moving because, well, most people were faster, and there were some great games though.

I think you need a total tonnage marker in the group queue next to the Light/Medium/Heavy/Assault (there's plenty of room, its so small). Would be nice to know anyway.

Also, rewards are ok, but not enough to get lots of people excited. That's fine, it's nice to have an off weekend, not every event needs to be epic. But it would be nice to have an event like this go for an entire week rather than just the weekend.

Min Score of 140 to get a qualifying match is WAY too high. Either lower the requirement or number of matches to get the 3 tiers.

or just make a decent challenge for decent prizes, that level of difficulty should carry better awards, a paint color or mechbays perhaps, I have gotten a total of 6 qualifying matches, I haven't run in group much as I think this challenge is a waste of time
