not that this is a bad thing.... But i am wondering, it other people are rethinking ammo situtation?
either going with less chance shots.... and not taking them... Or, just going for broke more often?

I generally bring enough ammo to deal at least 1200-1500 damage if my mech is predominantly ammo-based. Almost never runs out of ammo, even if I take potshots every opportunity I get.
99% of the time I get killed or the match ended before I can manage to go through them.
Edit: If you're running out of ammo, it is most likely that you're just not bringing enough.

For me the amount of ammo i bring is a trial and error thing done over time and many matches. First put in an amount you think will last the match. play it a while and track how often you run out. if you are running out of ammo almost every match find a way to squeeze in an extra ton or 2, if you end up having a couple tons left over every match either remove some in favor of more cooling/secondary weapons/adjust you play style and test some more.

Isn't this more a general discussion than patch feedback ?
If you run out of ammo and did badly (score-wise) you don't have enough of it.
If you have copious amounts of ammo left over(more than 30% of your total load) and did well, you brought too much.
It's an experience-thing ... after a while you get to somewhat accurately guess how much ammo this or that weapon will need for a succesful match in a certain 'mech. It depends on your own playstyle and aim so other people telling you how much you need may not be that helpful.

I did in my clan Mechs that had ballistic weapons, until I figured out they use more shells per shot for the same damage as its IS counterpart i.e. a ton of IS AC 20 is 7 shells whereas a ton of Clan AC 20 is 35 shells but it fires 5 shells at a time so you only get 7 shots per-ton

Depends on the mech. If its the primary weapon I normally bring enough ammo for about 800 damage. If its basically the only weapon (or lrms) I bring double that.
On other builds where the ammo weapon is secondary or tertiary I usually just put in what fits, 1-3 tons depending on weapon and function.

Big trouble for lights and mediums since 12vs12 introduction, less for heavy and assault, an AC20 or a Gauss must have at least 4 tons of ammo otherwise these big guns mean only a waste of tonnage..
For AC5/10 LBX10 you need 2,5-3 tons of ammo for every weapon or like before it's a waste of tonnage.
For Lrms my rule is 1 ton every 5, if you use an LRM20 (LRM20 or 4x LRM5 or LRM15+LRM5 etc) you need 4 tons of ammo.
In this way you give value to weapons and usually you run out of ammo only at the end of the match, just don't waste too many rounds.

It is patch specific because some mechs go through ammo faster now. I think my Huginn shoots SRM4s twice as fast so its ridiculous.
