Why make it random? The server already has the builds for all mechs in a match and the info on what's still intact, so let people salvage components off mechs if they win.

I think the concept of salvage fits well with the mechanic. I also think you should have rare drops for items like paints or camos, but not so much that you can rely on it (or no-one would ever buy any MC).
Please implement PGI!

We change from that double-XP, which while appreciated, isn't that useful in the long run, to a daily grab bag for a mech, for every mech you own. Its awarded upon finishing the first match of the day with that mech. It gives me more of a reason to use something other than my handful of favourites. As it stands, I've got a ton of mechs that I don't really care to ever use again but haven't sold off because the line of though "they may become more useful someday", which is why most people don't sell their unused mechs. By doing so it encourages using a wider variety of chassis, making the game more diverse, it gets people to play MWO more often, and it encourages people to own more mechs, and therefore, mechbays, which directly benefits PGI by causing more Mech Bay sales.

Not sure about the milstone bits, but the rare chance at camos and colors would be great. Maybe make a few camo pattern's that can only be obtained via "Salvage", that way it's not taking away potential purchases, and you have virtually infinite number of colors to work with so adding a few of those would also be great.
Honestly this kind of thing would add a lot to the game imo.

I suppose it hadn't really been so clear before just how meaningless the matches were, sure intellectually I knew they were meaningless but I guess it just sunk in how much I enjoyed having something - anything - to latch onto. Any other time a bad game is a bad game, potentially even time wasted with the new rewards system, but as silly and superficial as it was the treat bags added something to it, something to fight for and I now really feel like that's something this game has been sorely missing.
Yeah I know what you mean. last weekend, I couldn't wait until the rewards screen refreshed so I could click the button and find out what I won. This weekend, I have played a little bit but don't have a huge motivation to play going on at least partially because I don't have a solo event to take part in.
Also I don't want any more tourneys either. Game play just goes in the crapper every time we have one and I am getting to the point they act as a counter to me playing rather than motivating me to actually log in on the weekend.
In any case, I think we need more weekend solo events like the Halloween event where just playing is rewarded rather than some great epic grind to accomplish anything.

TBH I think we need some kind of permanent version of the Halloween event, same amount of points to qualify, but make MC/cockpit item/premtime/mechbay etc rewards super rare except during special occasions like Halloween or Christmas.
Call it Salvage or something.

Yeah I am with you there. I think I just broke 1 million unused experience on my mechs and have exactly zero things I would want to covert it to GXP for. Hell I have already unlocked more modules than I will actually be able to buy in a year with their current prices and current C-bill earnings rate so even unlocking modules is anti-climatic.

Part of my issue is the only motivating factors I have to play, in the current set up at least, is to grind cbills for new mechs and exp to level them. Both take so long to do, days worth of play time in some cases, that it gets rather dull. Say what you want about instant gratification, but it does serve a purpose. At the moment I'm running an old Jaeger, it's amassed 180k exp that I can't use for anything, which means all I'm getting out of a game are Cbills. While I do want to buy mechs, at the rate I'm make cbills its just.. tedious at times.
A salvage grab bag would be a nice little something, something that would make me feel rewarded each game even when my side gets obliterated - long as I do well I might get something for my time and effort. I'm not one that generally likes the random loot concept, but when it's just a bonus I think it does add a little something nice to the equation and if you add a few rarities like unique colors and cammos to the mix or a chance at equipment that could be used or sold.. well who doesn't like opening presents?

Do... do you peel it off the bullet strewn, melted chassis of a downed enemy? And somehow apply it to one of your own mechs? Perfectly? Regardless of what mech you got it from?

It's a video game about giant scifi mechs based on "future of the 80's" tech, it doesn't really need to be realistic. Sometimes fun additions are more important than immersion and aesthetics are always a great avenue for a feature like this, everyone likes looking special.

No, but you could take a sample of the paint back to your base, analyze it's composition, and then create your own formula for it that would work the same way.
Anyway, the grab-bag idea on mechs that are already fully leveled is a great one!

Mechbays should definitely stay MC.
Mechbays are cheap and they give them out for events a lot anyway so really if you are just patient you can get plenty.
Paint is another money maker. It has no "huge" impact on the game. It should stay MC only.
I think salvage should be a treat for doing good, not a way to avoid giving the game any money or support. The devs still have to eat and pay the bills after all.

Or instead of just a treat that only a select few players will get, keep the score req the same as during the event [30], so some contribution is needed and suicide grinders won't get it, but even new players in unoptimized mechs will have a chance to get them.
But yeah, keeping the normal rewards limited to no premium content seems like an okay thing too, I wouldn't mind them being in as very rare drops though, but keeping premium stuff drops for special events a la during the Halloween thing isn't awful.
This sort of thing would def help keep players interested in dropping during regular times more often, and the slot machine nature of grab bags is very addictive.
One reason I am in favor of handing out occasional premium prizes is for the whole "you just hit the jackpot!!!!" factor, I think it'd be fine if they were as rare as the cockpit items were during the halloween thing, though maybe taking mechbays out of the rotation would be a good idea, TBH mechbays are one of the only actual reasonably priced premium items in MWO I feel [they're an actual MICROtransaction]

A salvage system that has a large amount of depth would add a lot to MWO.
