So... Locust 3S .... Any Ideas?

I've attempted srm's, lrm's, erLL (which the 1V does much better mind you), and support variants with narc. None of these seem to work except for the erLL build, which is mediocre and outclassed by far by the 1V Locust.

I'm interested in knowing if anyone has had much success, and with what?

Quirks helped this variant a LOT. It's actually one of the best assassins in the game right now, up there with the Huginn.

I run it with four SRM2s, zero armour on the head, and another ton or so of armour shaved off the rest of the mech. With a 180XL. I can't remember if I use a medium laser or not, I think I do, but the point is you need to cram as much ammo as possible onto this thing.

Just find an assault or LRM boat, get behind it, and destroy it with your gattling missles. Rinse wash and repeat.

PS: You meant Locust 3S, not 1S. We don't have the 1S in this game (actually its hardpoints would be identical or inferior to the 3S)

Just wanted to pop in and say Tarogato is an ace locust pilot and he knows what he is talking about :) And most of the pilots I know that use the 3s run 4 srm2 with the major variation being in what you do with the energy hardpoint and ammo.

Correction made, thank you for pointing that out. I probably had the 1 from the 1V in mind.

I have used said loadout. It did seem to have potential, but it's difficult to make work. (especially when enemy lights are always going after you)

The 3S post quirkening is actually one of the better if not best Locust in my opinion. That 30% boost to missile range coupled with a 25% boost to medium laser cooldown makes it a better 1M than the 1M and a nasty short to medium range brawler when equipped with SRMs.

I run 4 SRM 2s or 2 LRM 5s depending on my mood with 2.5 tonnes of Ammo and a ML for back-up
