I beg of you, please please please, consider making alternative download systems for the game and patches. People already have to download the entire game, so adding a separate download system shouldn't add to the server burden. I know I'm not the first to ask for this, but that just means it's very much in demand and needed.
I've seen many threads about corrupt files, interrupted or non-functioning downloads, etc. and have had numerous troubles myself. So far the basic fix is "keep retrying until it gets it right", even with the file fixer. This is really not working, certainly not well. There has to be better ways to distribute the data for the game, at least more reliable ways, and faster ways. The very fact that there exists a Forum section called "Workarounds" means that some problems have to be worked around, and have fail-safes, backups, and alternatives, and this is one problem that really warrants workarounds.
Please consider at least a torrent system, if not direct download systems, or even simpler and more reliable file synchronization systems (even something akin to git or svn, that can be private-access). Torrents only have a bad reputation because media popularize illegal file sharing, but the fact of the matter is, it is an extraordinary way to transfer data, reliably (hash systems built-in, and multi-source checks), securely, privately (private markers), rapidly, efficiently (distributed server loads), and independently (there are systems where you can host everything from right on your current servers, no trackers needed).
I guarantee it can be done easier, simpler, more efficiently, more reliably, more securely, and more effectively through torrents and alternative downloads, even relieving many of the problems you have to deal with. I can offer several examples of this, including at least one other UDK game that uses torrents and alternative download systems.
Please, I strongly urge you to seriously consider alternatives for obtaining the game data. I know plenty of work was put into the installer and file fixer, and it's very much appreciated, but this wouldn't be abandoning it, it would be assisting it. It will help support users, while at the same time alleviating some of the burden on game support problems.

The only alternative downloads that I'd like to see is something like the old GameArena servers that Telstra(Australia) used to run where you could download games without it affecting your internet quota. Otherwise I really can't see the point, they should just fix the problems with their current hosting.

I am not sure i understand your reasoning for this post. I mostly spend less time downloading the patch, more time applying the patch to my system. but i have never had any problems with the patch system.

Just checking around with people in my unit, they all said that problems patching their game was not an issue, but on a very rare occasion.

First i think you should open a ticket if your have constant problems. because i don't see very many threads on patching problems.

Secondly if you could include screen shots or error messages from what your seeing that would be helpful in correcting the problem. i believe that you should rarely have issues, and something on your pc or connection to the server should be looked at. possible hard drive is fragmented or your getting packet loss it cant recover from.

Tried to install this game in my old computer and it keeps saying that the download is corrupted and have to start again. Seriously, the thing takes 6 hours to download at this speed and I already had to restart again after 2 hours several times.

I have it running perfectly at home. Would really appreciate a way to at least to recover my progress. Torrent download of a recent version would be nice. At least the patch won't be 5.5GB!!!

Regional servers and Torrent would be best in my opinion
I get 200kb connection to the download server as apposed to the 2.5mb i could have.

I have big problems to patch my game too ...
didnt play for a while and started launcher. it said 20 patches are need to install.
i started patching and left my pc for 3 hours and after that time still 7 patches need to install.
i aborted at that time and startet the next day again. the launcher crashed without error for 5 times.
so i startet the repair tool and let it work for the whole night !!!
this morning it was finally done and id like to test the game. start launcher, click play --> missing pak! please run the repair tool!

this is the year 2014, people have 8 core processors, ssd´s and 100mbit internet
i can download and install a 11Gig Game over steam in 30-60 minutes, the time ur launcher needs to apply a 300mb patch !
fix your freaking launcher and servers !!!!!

Im a new user, i downloaded 6gb of game with launcher, after some hours it done and start to install, but, it detect a md5 bad checksum and start over to download all the 6gb. I don't think i'll able to play this game cos i got problems with direct downloads of huge single files. For my opinion the download system here is totally wrong, a torrent file will be appreciated, if someone have the complete updated game torrent pheraps can save me from abandon this game. Thanks.
