So your air conditioning doesn't work when it's warmer outside than in your house? Think about it.
AIr conditioning works by taking heat from one part of a pipe, and transferring it to another part. That part then dissipates heat to the outside by a fan blowing over it... and by being hotter than the environment. If the environment is hotter than the external heat dissipation portion of the AC unit, then no, it won't work. Because thermodynamics, *******!
In the case of mechs, in order for them to dissipate heat, the external portion of the heat sinks, on the outside of the mech, have to be hotter than the environment.
So while the inside of the mech could be cooler, on thermal vision mechs would always appear hotter than the environment (at least the exposed portions of the heat sinks would), otherwise the mech would not be able to dissipate heat into the environment.

They do appear hotter via thermal vision.... so.... what was the lecture on a topic I already understand about?

*activate heat vision*
Yes I do.
Along with:
HPG (otherwise 'mechs blend into the metal background too well)
Forest Colony--haze
River City--haze/night
Frozen CIty--blizzard, night is fine

And if I had thermal vision to cut through it I would use it--like when we used our thermals in Afghanistan/Iraq to see through dust storms/haze/clouds.

The map would be much better in my opinion if the environment made radar spotty and heat vision useless. Force pilots to creep through the jungle and try to identify enemies by sight. Would make it so much more fun.
This is a really good idea

If it's necessary, use it. I'm just talking about those who are insisting it has to be used in the entire map and that it needs to be reduced.

No way. I can't imagine even the smallest military forces not having Thermal/Night vision in the year 3050. Much less,. advanced Battlemechs not having it.

There are a few maps that would be a lot neater if stuff like this happened. Like, stellar interference or just the elements of the planets and environment. Really hot maps, maybe it would interfere with radio waves, etc. That would be cool. The cooler maps, we would run be a bit more stiff in our movements because the the frigid winds and ice buildup in the hydraulics.

Not in Mordor. There mechs are cooler than evironment, which is odd. And for some reason the flamer does not blind thermal vision on frozen city... something was really misplaced in the code for thermal.

I always found it funny that the map itself is hotter than an active mech is. How do they avoid overheating at ALL?
heat sinks, I think it would be funny if powering down on this terra actually killed you, as you needed to power the heat sinks just to keep you okay at planet temp

I've accidentally scratched many backs of mates in that map due to Thermal Vision so I just don't use it there anymore.
