The demands of the challenge do not really lead to a play style other than perfectly ordinary.... ....

No matter what type of competition is put out by PGI players will change the way they play to their perceived advantage.

HI,

I live in Australia. Today is Saturday, but it's 5 hours before tournament. LOL.

Could you move challenges to the beginning of Canadian Friday?

I like this formula! I don't know about you guys, but I'm a brawler and a sniper. I'm always trying to survive the match so when in danger I try doing hit & run tactics, flanking and using height advantage with cover. Just because you need to survive a match doesn't mean you have to sit on the edge of the map and chuck lrms all day.

All it will be is LRMs and long rage sniping and hiding, nobody will be brawling in fear of death.

Update
I take it back! it was kinda easy to complete I done 20 points in 40 matches, thanks for the victor :)

TIP... I took a direwolf and rushed the team every game, everyone is so scared of getting blown up they turn and run, exposing rear torso makes for an easy kill, rush kill rush assist then spend the rest of the match helping your team do the same thing (don't just sit back and wait for team to win for you because that's not going to work)

Come on guys as a Mechwarrior you are supposed to play to survive a match (at least try) as a dead Mech can't continue doing damage (and cap if need be) while a dead one can't contribute to the match anymore (and thus a win)

If trying to survive was rewarded a bit more rather then playing kamikaze / headless chicken matches would start becoming more structured as people will need to be more tactical to score points rather then rely on short life blitz runs.

I mean how many times have you seen lights medium and even Assaults go do a solo run to get the maximum assists and damage before going "poof" so that he may go rinse and repeat in an other match and wasting the match for everyone else while doing so.

Mechs are supposed to be your family jewels you aren't supposed to throw them at a pack of 12 jackals to scrap up a few c-bills...

I know I'll be playing as usual this week end and I expect to get those 20 points rather quickly not because I'm good but because I play team smart. So the more the reward system rewards people being team players I'm all for it.

You need to update your Click Here Link :P Why have that link take me to a page that says the rules have changed http://mwomercs.com/...-contest-rules/ , so now click THIS link http://mwomercs.com/...-contest-rules/ ? Why not just skip that whole referral and put in the NEW link to start?

Also, as others have asked ... does the Queue you use make a difference? I assume you can only get 1 point per match since one of the conditions is to Survive and Win or do you get a point for each Kill/Assist as long as you Survive and Win?

Only 1 points for any number of kills (>0), any number of assists (>0). Otherwise you could end up with 24 points after 2 matches.

Ok, the complainers.
You DO realise you are being heard, that there is considerable innovation in tournaments specifically, and ultimately you can only stop a person from gaming the system if he wants to? That part is out of PGI's hands, pretty much.

So I am impressed by the guys who manage this part of the F2P concept of MWO.

so you have to actually kill at least one mech and survive and win in that game to get one point. Now judging by the muppets that keep ending up on my team for the last few days this is going to result in me having to play LRM boat or 'alpha male' mechs as i'm severely limited on time available to play this weekend, combined with i'll probably be using my naff laptop too.

Why do a lot of these tournaments require a lot of time more than any other factor.

I'm sitting here working towards it, and I didn't notice it doesn't start until tonight. Crap.

*Changes from the win builds to the money making builds; as they are NOT the same*.

You can look forward to it. I would have to play 60 hours to get that many points, if not more.

Hope you make it.

Thanks for the support. I know you can do it too, if you put your mind to it (and stop dropping in group queue).

Question:

I already own the 9S and have all the Elite skills fully unlocked. Do my efficiencies transfer to the Champion variant? Or is it considered a completely separate variant as far as skills go?

With the same exact hardpoint configuration, I'd expect it to be considered the same variant. That is my hope at least.

I had exactly the same question, posted it in the new player thread ;)

If not, the mech will be sold for scrap...

This tournament looks sweets. I thought about games I've played and said "This'll be easy!" Then I thought about how "surviving" might effect other teammates playstyles...and it may be harder ;) We'll see!

Either way, this looks like it'll be fun, and the weekend-long insta-premium time is a FANTASTIC carrot to keep going and play this weekend.

Well done, PGI.

They are designed that way on purpose, to encourage game play. I feel as though PGI could encourage more game play if the trournaments/challenges were less grindy. The CBill reward last weekend was nice. That encouraged me to play more than trying to get 10 "perfect" matches with 7 kills and 1000 + damage in order to make the leader board.

I would like to see every event include a secondary incentive to play, such as the CBill reward.
