exactly, which means you'll never see aliens in the Btech universe.

Because of the sentient aliens featured in Far Country, the novel's canonicity is sometimes questioned. However, it does meet the current criteria for Canon and BattleTech Line Developer Herbert A. Beas has confirmed its canonicity, with the caveat that the authors and developers deliberately ignore the Tetatae and shall not revisit them. The impact on the BattleTech universe is minor, given that the Tetatae only (theoretically) exist in a place that has no connections to the known universe whatsoever.
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Far_Country

"The Line Developer's official stance is that technically, the novel Far Country is fully canonical, as are the Tetatae featured in the story. However, it has also been made clear that sentient aliens are considered incompatible with the BattleTech aesthetics and that aliens, particularly the Tetatae, will not be revisited in the fiction. Further references to the Tetatae are deliberately avoided. Their homeworld appears to be beyond any area of space known or accessible to humankind; it was only ever reached twice by human JumpShips through accidental and fatal misjumps, and there is no known way to leave the system again. This conveniently keeps the Tetatae separated from the rest of the BattleTech universe for good."

Basically, yes, they exist, but you're never, ever, ever gonna encounter them because it's impossible to get out of the system they're in, and almost impossible to get into.

Still... They're like adorable freaky birds. Would love one as a cockpit item... >_>

This new map resembles a very ancient Strip mine!

"These are not naturally occurring geological formations but instead bear an Uncanny similarity to long abandoned Strip mines" Quotes an inside source.

Could it be that there once was an Alien intelligence that has gone extinct?

Actually that is a natural geological formation that can be caused by hot springs. Here is a link to a good example.

Aliens.
The semi-complete list of every alien species ever mentioned in Battletech.
Admittedly short of the birds, the only other remotely intelligent alien species was a band of reptiles but unlike the birds, every species was little more than a side note or a background fluff to bring the worlds to life and completely unimportant to the plots.

In a universe that's not yet fully colonized and which ships have to jump from star to star, with documented instances of Jumpship stopping over in uninhabited systems to recharge (and as a viable military tactics to circumvent fixed defenses), we not only get an accidental misjump into that particular systems, we got TWO accidental misjumps into that systems.

Once is an accident. Twice is a coincidence... or not. I'm betting at some points the birdbrains -- and I'm not referring to the Jade Falcons here -- would get revisited.

It's actively discouraged. I'm doubting we could even get a cockpit item... No matter how much I'd want one. We're talking Urbie levels of want here.

The Swamp creature that is clearly moving, pretty much invalidates any claim that there is no alien life in the btech universe. Also what we define as intelligent may also be a factor. Those creatures in the swamp may be intelligent but are in a very basic state. Such as pre-tribal humans.

Far Country and it was disowned by the IP as never having existed in canon. The owners of the IP have stated the humans are the only sentient life in the Btech universe

this... and i´d prefere we keep it this way... the clans were originally planned as an alien race as far as i know, but they trashed that idea and simply let kerenskies children return... a much better fit for that universe than a few greenies in their UFOs ...

So I'm guessing you'd be upset if people began requesting a K-town Map..? or Tetatae cockpit items?

I have the feeling I need to incite unrest.

Mostly for my own amusement.

Side note, that Book is worth $30 used. I:

$90 mint.

Anyone got a copy, I actually don't have one...

Really. And to think I dug mine out of a used book store for 3 dollars. Of course I got the original runs of Wolves On The Border, Blood Legacy, and Lost Destiny for the same. Pity I could not find Sword and Dagger.

Oh, there are plenty of aliens in BT. Humans are alien to every world other than Terra. :P

Something is alien if it is foreign. By definition native wildlife cannot be alien.

Going price on Amazon. Generally $20 after shipping on Ebay for damaged copies.

Really what are the chances alien life exists.

2 possibilities exist.

We are alone in the universe
or we are not.
Both are equally terrifying.

Actually they do.

Alien plants and animals are fairly common, and non-human intelligent life is known to exist. However if you're looking for a non-human technological civilization you are right, there are no aliens in Battletech.
