Many of us can relate that Mechwarrior 2 has been just that jewel that we can't just let go. I am currently playing it and aside from the outstanding soundtrack thanks to Jeehun Hwang, the missions and the maps are just too memorable.

My question: Is there anything stopping PGI from recreating maps from Activision's Mechwarrior 2? Can they use those maps as a form of inspiration. They do look large enough to implement them on CW missions.

On another note, I'd also like to invite you guys to read a thread I started long time ago. It may not be much on PGI's mind to go as deep, but who know's if the future on MW is headed in this direction.

Are you playing it on an old machine, or a DOS emulator, or a Windows version? What's your secret for getting it to run reliably? I think I might try to get it going on a throwaway box I got from work.

Would like to be able to use my old DOS disks, I think I have a Windows version too, but have never been able to get them to run (except that time a DOS emulator fried a laptop, I think I'm done with DOS emulators.)

I love the MW2 soundtrack.

If the MW2 maps were remade, i don't think they'd feel the same. I know I wouldn't go "Ahh yes. Good old MW2 map." because to be honest, it's not going to be as low poly. I think a MW2 map would be either really bland, or totally unrecognizable save for some of the main features (like a hill, or a cluster of buildings)

I still listen to the MW2 soundtrack although Timothy Seals does a nice job on the remix versions I still enjoy the original ones. Ah nostalgia.

I think as a Stand alone package, PGI could look into the cost of being able to remake those games with updated graphics. (Think the Halo series) But the liscensing would be the problem. As far as maps are concerned, its all about what they can do with CryEngine. As its been stated, you probably wouldn't reconize them.

If they did, I think we'd get a larger crowd of people and we'd be very happy :P

Where do i sign?!!

It might be not just a dream. Russ said they will look into PvE after CW. Well, i would like to see Solaris Arena and other stuff, but i would totally want a remake of MW2 instead of a generic "waves" mode. Maybe they could do both MW2 mercs and 31st CC, so both IS and Clan fans would be happy. But seriously, if they just take the game as it was, fix small things like the controls, update the graphics and the movies, they would have a beautiful game already made and ready to be sold. I would pay willingly 70$ for it..

Make it so! Shut up and take my money!

I think only the pure original dos versions of those games will run on a modern pc but I haven't tried it in a long time.

Google it. Should be a guide or too out there. Gog recently released X-wing and Tie Fighter so I still have my fingers crossed that the MW series has a chance.

There is actually an installer/patcher/emulator type program out there that will allow you to install and run the various mw2 games and expansons on a modern pc. I think it's called MechVM. I think this is the forum for it: http://www.mech2.org/forum/index.php

I think all you need is the MechVM program and a valid mw2 disk to install it.

Google MechVM, it's DosBox easy mode. It' uses DosBox, just go through the instructions step by step you'll be fine. It runs well on my win 7 machine. You have to have the disks though I don't believe it was work with just cd images.

Edit: get out of my head Morph. Lol

I actually think it works fine with CD images, for instance I apparently lost my MW2: Mercenaries disk (best mw game ever created...) but still had the other 2. Found an image of Mercs and it worked fine. May depend on the image, if it was created correctly.

Quadrology sounds familiar, that may actually be the one I found, though I only downloaded the Mercs disk as I still had all the others.

Nothing like playing MWO with MW2 OST blasting in the background. Oh, yes. If only they could somehow magically get access to the soundtrack *and* the sound effects for the 'Mech computer/Betty... That would be an awesome addition to Clan 'Mechs.

As much as I adore MW2, MW3 is *really* where it's at in terms of gameplay.

I don't think Activision would let them do that. Not without kicking something over to them.

I just want a MW to be around so I can play a Jenner 40yrs from now. This version is fun but maps are needed.
A night, day and, weather but not just snow versions of all maps would be nice.

Jenner then, Jenner now, Jenner later.....
