Hey, don't forget the privileges of rank. Say you're a vet founder in from the beginning. You make lance captain rank. Your one mech is severely damaged in the previous battle and you don't care to repair it. No problem, just sign up for the next drop and take someones mech that has a lesser rank than you. That's done in several of the books isn't it? So it's lore and has to be implimented into the game. Not friggin likely.

How about letting the devs finish the game as they see fit before demanding that they redo it all. From what I've seen it's going to be pretty awesome at release even if it's not completely done quite yet.

no. my reason is that players will see a certain mech on the field and fubar a mission trying to be as delicate as possible to harvest that mech. meanwhile the rest of their team would be dying in the street without their help. also if everyone cant buy a madcat at the same time it would throw the game balance out of place.

Basically it's to stop packs of griefers deliberately gang-bang legging other mechs for salvage while ruining the game for others who are actually trying to win the games actual objectives. Also stops people from losing mechs and not being able to play the game at all, even for a short time. No play, no pay.

Maybe, MWO should deal with Salvage as a random thing, at the end of the match they should either give C-Bills for the Salavaged mech or both C-Bills and parts of the mech... But never more than 1 mech (if any can be salavaged in the first place) and you get the choice of the mech to Salavge, for example one light mech may have items of value compared to a heavy mech that may only give more C-Bills but due to hostiles in the area the Salvage team only has a chance to Salvage one mech

I dont see why anyone should lose their mech, just make it a random Possibility to be able to salvage a mech after battle as well as random damage to that salavged mech that way you wont see players shooting out knee caps with a Jenner to salavge a whole mech like I use to do in MW1 rofl ^^

To Salvage something after battle always made it great fun, cuz you never know what you might find and you would have to work to get hold of a mech Chassie that you have been always after...

Even then after the salavge you are not guaranteed a Full mech just out of the Blue like that, may take days to repair or you may need to find other parts to complete the salvaged Mech to make a whole Mech out of it...

Also, due to Tech differences the Mech you get hold of is never the same as it once was on the battle field, it may have lesser Stats or missing a componant or 2 or something like that

I see a ton of possibilites that could be done with Salvage, and for MWO I think Salvage is a MUST it is one of the Fun things about Mechwarrior or Mech Commander

It's really very simple.

Clan tech, and certain high-end lostech, is first available from Co-Op PvE (something similar to WoW's dungeons or EVE-Online's complexes - a high tier player can solo a low-tier dungeon, or a group of them can do a high-tier dungeon.) Higher Tier = > better level of salvage. This will also allow guilds/clans to practice coordination if their usual rival aren't available.

So let's say I solo a low-level PvE scenario and get a Clan ER LL. Cool, I'll mount it on my Atlas.

Now, I take it into a PvP match, and while I'm plinking n00bs at 800m, a Hunchback walks up behind me and AC/20s my arm off. Woe is me.

Now I have to do that PvE scenario again, because with my laser destroyed, all I can get through normal repair channels is the IS LL I used to have.

Not sure whether it'd be better for those things to be trade-able between players (ingame economy), or if there should be a cool-down timer (like in Star Trek Online) for certain dungeons.

But since it's a moot point until the Clans get here in 2013, they have time to think about it an implement something.

Yes, I really, really want there to be PvE content.

I really wanna see PvE content too... But to Farm for Equipment all the time for losses in combat... I dont think so... could make certain things damaged for a certain time till they are repaired but even then im still agasint farming to replace damaged or broken items

I would be willing to use your suggestions and play for Pink slips, as well as scenarios that are designed for the purpose of gaining salvage, as long as the participants have a clear understanding of the rewards and how it is awarded; it might work.

Come to think of it, if i want to avoid all whining and debate I guess I should not read the Forums.

Hey if they build it I will try it, unless I lose one of my mechs, then I would cry.

Due to the money system to pay for mechs, it makes sense to omit capturing defeated mechs. Can you imagine that you scrimp and save to buy an Awesome, only to have a TAC rob you of it 20 seconds into its first fight? As long as you are getting C-Bills based on damage inflicted I will be a happy mechwarrior.

I'd say the best way to get better mech/equipment is to make it an achievements based, i.e 1000 assault mech kill unlocks a certain chassis. It will remove the issue of losing your mech via capture....though I have to admit I will miss the feature from Mechwarrior 4....Fafnir all the way!!!!!

Greetings,

Has anyone come across info regarding captured battlemechs? They were a key part of previous Mechwarrior titles and capturing some mechs were considered a status symbol. This is especially true when the Clans invade. For obvious reasons the IS will not have access to Clan Mechs or Weaponry when they finally do invade and the only way logically to receive one would be to capture it. (Headshot)

There would still be drawbacks to captured Mechs as any weapons destroyed would have to be replaced with IS versions unless a system of salvage is put in place. I hope it isn't just C-bill rewards as you can't just go to IS MART and pick up a Madcat with C-bills when your in the IS. I know Clans are a ways away but I also like the idea of capturing IS Mechs. Hmm.... Or at least give us access to special skins if your not going to fork over the mech. Pilots, especially Mercs, wouldn't likely walk away from a good mech and it would be unrealistic to assume that Mercs would always accept contracts that gave up the right to salvage. I'm not necessarily saying that another player should lose his mech permanently but the winner should receive a beat up chassis to fix up in the mech lab.

Curios to what your thoughts are on this. Should captured battlemechs be implemented?

If you can only own four mechs, how could this even work? I like the idea of salvaging components (weapons, ammo, etc), but if we're limited to four mechs, salvaging chassis would be a hassle.

any game that is only PVP will still have groups taking advantage of any rules programed in buy the devs. even if if is just arena match where all vs all, you will have others that team up to take out the others. Until they do have a PVE not everyone will enjoy this game. grievers, pawners, noob farmers whatever, their idiots whose sole purpose in life is to make any other gamer feel like crap. I'm glad there is no salvage or mech stealing just c-bills and xp. that way i don;t have to hear the 14 year crying he took my catapult whaaaa. even if the PVE id just a mercnet to take a random drop with others again AI opponents is OK to get salvage of any kind from. I want to point out that here to play and have fun not make other players feel like crap so they never want to play again like some many others that have already signed on for MWO.

Perhaps in that case if your garage is full any 'mech you salvage would be sold directly back to the shop, essentially just giving you extra C-Bills?

Hence my suggestion and those of other like-minded people in this thread to limit salvage to a separate match type or something similar. If someone chooses to play said match type then they know what they're getting into, and people who don't want to have a chance of losing their 'mechs wouldn't have to participate (of course they'd miss out on awesome salvage opportunities if they won).

I'd like to see salvage as 'drops' from component/'mech killing. Though rather than taking them from the killed player that they're "generated" by the game. This salvage could follow a MMO-style system, 'trash' items would be sellable for c-bills, but not functional 'commons' would be items like heat sinks, ammo, and the like, 'uncommons' could be fully functional items like SRM-6s or Medium Lasers, and 'rare' items could be named items, perhaps from a particular manufacturer, which do additional damage/have better heat management

Even just the 'trash' option would be a nice bit of flavor, as I'd personally much rather get a message after the battle saying I recovered '3 leg actuators, 2 tons of ammo, and 1 electrical component' that I could sell for 500,000 c-bills, rather than just having 500,000 c-bills deposited into my account.

There will be no salvage, I'm pretty sure one of the devs stated this a while ago

:D I still enjoy speculating about it and how it *could* be implemented, since it was a much-loved component of previous MW titles.
