Here's some reasons as to why lobbies would be awesome:
1.) Have the ability to vote on upcoming maps in rotation.
2.) Have time to choose a map-appropriate Mech because you'll know what map you'll be playing on.
3.) Will make balancing teams easier, by lowering the average number of players that need to be shuffled.
4.) Small groups (2-4) could join PUG lobbies and not get stomped in full group queue.
5.) PUG's could quickly form groups with others in the lobby.
That's just off the top of my head, but there's a good bit more as to why lobbies would be awesome.

And I want a military-grade naked hologram chick (because we know military-grade hologram AI's are going to be extremely sexualized). And infinite ammo.
And energyshields... That would be perfect. Shields that make your Mech invisible to everyone except players who equip Level 87 Spectacles of Icarus.

If you drop solo and you cannot read the movements of your team then your team isn't the one with the problem.
If you play in a small group, yes there may be a high chance of facing larger groups instead of multiple small ones which puts the outcome of the battle more in their favor instead of yours or being balanced altogether.

We have the tools to communicate.. it's TeamSpeak3 which is free to use and have run in the background. There is even a dedicated room for mechwarrior online for you to sit in for a chance to drop with others and be able to communicate with them through TeamSpeak3. All you need to do is make sure your name in TS3 matches your callsign in mwo so people know who to add to their friendlist.

That's purely your opinion and doesn't apply to "everyone" considering the fact that there are plenty of players who "honestly" would prefer being able to communicate through voice instead of having to communicate through the text comms.
And I'd like to believe that "most players" would prefer to work as a team instead of being glory hounds and getting all the kills. I understand that there are quite a few who are more interested in padding their Kill/Death Ratio more than assisting their team in victory but those kinds of players can be found in almost every online and offline game available.

How about we not and just say we did?

So you want to turn MWO into another Call of Duty or EVE Online version? Instead of trying to change Mechwarrior.. why don't you just play those other games when you want.. and when you wish to play a different game than those.. feel free to rejoin our ranks here in Mechwarrior Online and be happy?
"Regenerating Shields".. You must be a Star Trek fan. I like Star Trek too but.. I for one have absolutely no interest in that crap.

That aside, if OP isn't a troll then he clearly wants a game that isn't Mechwarrior. Therefore, he should go look elsewhere for one that fits his desires.
Edit : In fact, he might want an Earthsiege remake. You know, AI-controlled mechs with shields take over earth or something like that, we get to beat the **** out of them and salvage their ****. Mech action, yes.
Of course, it's a different setting entirely so.

If you play PUG you get each round a random team of 12 players unable to communicate.
If you play in a small group, the matchmaker will set you up with other small groups against big group what is able to communicate via VOIP and you get stomped.
The best way to improve MWO would be to give the players tools to communicate (VOIP) and to not shuffle the PUG group every round.
But to be honest, nobody wants VOIP and most MWO players don't want to play a game where teamwork is important.
So skip the teamwork part from the game.

Maybe you should go play Mechassualt

More eSports?
-snip-
The f**k do lobbies have to do with "eSports"?
I just want lobbies so we can see the damn map, and choose appropriate Mechs. So we have the chance to balance teams by shuffling a few players, instead of constructing an entirely new match each time. So that, god forbid, MWO could start making headway on useful things. BUT NO. Apparently, lobbies are too "eSports-y" for you.
So screw everything, lets just keep this crap the way it is, because obviously there aren't any problems with the current system.
NO. PROBLEMS. AT. ALL.

For a large segment of the player base, it's Community Warfare or bust! What we are playing now are just "practice sessions" and not the real game.
And so, yes, for me lobbies are more eSports and less CW.

I thought for a second that the post would have been serious.
Instead, we have a post worth of a HAWKEN player.
Dude, did you even get some info about the lore?
Your basicly asking with the removal of the heat to destroy what make that game in a part a battletech game.
Heck, the firsts mechwarriors had heat!
Mech commanders had heat!
EVEN THE FREAKING MECHASSAULTS HAD HEAT!

Everything you said is incorrect, except this.
Best would be to not shuffle PUG groups. The best way to do this is with a game browser.
