Timberwolf does "all lazorz" better than the Nova. In fact, Stormcrow too.
Nova is only able to carry 6xERML with 24 DHS. Timberwolf can do 7xERML+2xLPL with 24 DHS.

I can only justify this version of Nova:
NVA-S 5xERML 6xERSL 4xMG
You've got 20 DHS, and means to fight at close&medium range as well as a possibility to do 65 damage within 1.65 seconds without ghost heat - fire your small lasers, wait 0.5 second, fire your medium lasers. And at least you can fire the mechineguns when you're overheating since there's no point in torso twisting in this thing.

5x MG's and 6x ER Meds is much better IMO....

Use the B variant with a prime arm....

I blame the maps and not the mechs.

Scouts need to SCOUT. Mediums need to destroy or hunt. Assaults DESTROY or HOLD a position to DESTROY incoming mechs.

Instead this is a click and drop game where everyone HUNTS EACH OTHER. Maps are small and geared to very fast brawls or LRM spam waves to move the groups onto the next game.

Even with the capture the points how many light pilots actually do this? Or they try and run into a full enemy lance at point X which obliterates them.

Most matches devolve in the brawl of assaults and heavies with the lites running around shooting the legs and backs.

Just once I want a map where the heavies and assaults have a center target with the lites assigned something WAY OUT on the fringes. Big boys move in to take center point A while the lites scramble using the SPEED they have to run like they are meant to. Maybe taking that FAR point a dire whale never could reach gives the center a pop up turret or bonus.

At the time of the chassis challenge the nova was a perfect storm of suck. It had no viable options other than running less weapons and basically was just a slower worse stormcrow. Otherwise even if people ignored you you couldn't be a threat because of heat.

Now at least after the laser changes small laser boating is viable again so you actually have enough firepower to not be a detriment to your team albeit it's niche with it's low range. I really hope the nova gets some quirk love.

The missing link however.... Well I've seen a lot of them shut down in a corner because they got their arms shot off and I'll say from my experience, they blow up nicely when shot at peak jump hight.

I was looking forward to the Nova till I played a few matches in the Trial Nova. Then it was...LOL, NOPE!

I also hope it gets some quirk help.

"Look Ma, No Arms" should be the Mist Lynx's catch phrase. Nova can actually have a torso energy option or MGs.

I've only come to the conclusion that there is only one consistently useful build, and it makes me sad. 600 damage in a loss... is all sorts of sad.

I actually busted out my captured (shifty eyes) Nova this last weekend, and got a TON of kills! Like 2-5 each match. (That may have partially been because of the Tournament... but whatever...)

I run mine with 4 MG's (yummy internals+minimal heat), with 8 small lasers (not pulse) to save space. Slap AMS and as many heat sinks as you can in there... and you've actually got a powerful mech. It's no frontline mech because it can't take damage... but it works!

I just want to point out that if you're running it with small lasers and MGs, it sorta has to be a frontline mech; and at least we can agree that it does not do well up close, thanks to its slugishness and gigantic frame.

Wait, the warhawk is a bad mech?

I don't understand this sentiment. The only real complaints I can come up with for it are the LT hard locked heat sinks and pod selection.

If the LT wasn't so locked and we got some more ballistic/energy pods there would be a lot more builds possible with the Warhawk. Not better builds IMO, but different builds than what is possible now.

Having Ghost Heat in this game makes an energy boat with only 4-5 hardpoints kind of usless--by comparison a 55 ton 'mech and 75 ton 'mech both easily mount 7 energy weapons. Also, taking out those hardlocked heat sinks while adding more pods with ballistics would let people make more brawler-friendly Warhawks without having to lean so hard on SRMs.

Plus, the sad state of Clan ERPPCs in this game makes the stock Warhawk Prime nothing like the beast it usually is.

I think the Atlas would like a word with you... :P

And that is coming from a non-Steiner player :)
