I am hoping that it will allow a person to take up a command only position in the lance or drop group.

Well right now, the command console seems like a 1 million peice of junk... ;)

Hope to get some use out of it later, but for now, it will sit in my forlorn hanger.

Love to see the ability to have both waypoints and markers - also maybe an option to tell team what target is primary and secondary without using TAG or NARC.

Maybe it will be implemented along with ECM in the Dec 4 update...

well it didn`t!
anyway the future will tell but a command console command mech in every group will be interesting in my opinion.
we`ll see.

Alfred's got a good one.
Lighting up in bold or something the commander's call to target that specific mech. Everyone rains death on that guy, then moves on. Myabe even increasing the odds of missile lock/hit on that particular mech when LRM's are called in from indirect fire, like giving them the equivalent bonus of an Artemis system since Artemis doesn't help with indirect fire.

MWO wiki says commando can also mount it... which is in opposition to what sarna suggests.

I hope the Command Console is given an actual use soon. It'd be interesting to have air strikes called in by a Lance Commander in the middle of a brawl.

Does this work with ANY mech that has Command Console installed?

Nothing currently.
It is merely a placeholder until they get this implemented.

I fully expect this to integrate with the Commander Role and the Command modules such as Air Strikes and Artillery.
