Just played a few PUGS, as I will, and I noticed how less then 25% of the pilots brought AMS.

In this age of "OH GOD! SAVE US FROM LRMS!!! panic merchants flooding the forums with their Sob stories about the death from the sky, and how they are super great pilots who don't deserve to be shot at my stupid LRM loving noobs with no skills, I was needless to say surprised.

If you don't want to get killed by missle... mount a anti missile system.

Or I guess you could whine and beg constantly for a nerf...... but who is that pathetic?

:D

I agree 100%. Even my 20 tonne locust carries an AMS. When I see heavies & assaults with one, I de-active my AMS if I'm not being targetted. I'm not helping people who have my entire mech's tonnage in available weapon space being too greedy to bring along an AMS.

This

having your own AMS reduces the damage some. Not having it reduces it not at all. Not bringing AMS cause THEY aren't is... Dumb!

I figured that is what you were getting at, but the way you worded that statement was odd and the exact point of it vague.

That's your opinion though.

I weigh the benefits vs cons and it normally doesn't pan out for AMS. If AMS was a module and didn't cost crit space or tonnage, I'd agree with you and carry it.

Now, since it is equipment, I need to think...is the damage reduction to LRMs for a few min of combat worth 2 tons and 3 crit spaces in my build?

I tend to stay near cover and try to keep a lookout for enemy UAVs. If I see incoming missiles I often can get to cover and break LOS. So, to me, I normally want to use that additional tonnage for DHS, maybe an engine, ammo, or a larger weapon.

I think a lot of other people think similarly and AMS just tends to lose out.

Now you say not bringing AMS because others don't is dumb isn't entirely the case. AMS does work better in a group. If I contribute to an AMS blanket, then I am preventing most missiles from striking. Then 2 tons is worth it. PUGs don't coordinate like that. If just 1 AMS is hammering away, then there is damage reduction (some help for sure), but ammo is gone quickly...the system is now dead weight. Idk, like I said, not worth it for me.

Im a team player by bringing an UAV for our team. I'll let someone else sacrifice their tonnage and crit space for AMS. I think many people feel this way and that is why AMS is rare in PUG drops.

No AMS needed against the worst weapon System ever.

Should all lights remove all weapons so they have the room for ams and the amount of ams rounds it would take to be worth taking ams?

I didn't a test with a kitfox 3 ams no ecm, ams range and faster firing module. Got targeted by lrms on purpose and it basically did just about nothing with maybe 3 or 4 more ams shooting close by.. Ams is a joke, get radar deprivation it works a lot better and weighs nothing.

Which is stupid. I can always find a way to spare 1.5 tons. If everyone says "Taking AMS by yourself isn't worth it!" and no one takes it, or rarely does, of COURSE it isn't effective.

If even half your team decided to take it, it stacks considerably. But we've got a culture of "I took it and I was the only one it doesn't work!" being encouraged. That's a problem.

AMS does nothing vs typical LRM40 rain

Radar Deprivation is 100% effective at no weight no slots

A ridiculous place for a game to be but there you have it

A single AMS shouldn't be able to blanket that out. I can tell you that when you have a lance of mechs, together, who ALL brought AMS, the amount of LRM's they shoot down is considerable, especially at the front end of the missile salvo. Even if they don't ALL go down, it's reduced and/or gives you time to keep backing into cover if you've made a poor choice of positioning.

Radar derp PLUS AMS? Winning.

Yep.

I have to admit that my Clan mechs don't have AMS, but almost all of my IS mechs use AMS and it really helps.
If half of the team would use AMS, 2-3 missile boats wouldn't even be a threat.

Dodging missiles is viable, sure.
But if your only chance to destroy the opponents and their LRM boats is a push, you'll be glad to have some AMS on your team.
Waiting behind cover till you're surrounded or got spotters in your back, or the other side is pushing without giving you a chance to return fire because of LRM cover, is a bad idea.

I think the AMS modules should get some love.
The range module is...meh. Maybe good for creating an AMS umbrella but wastes more ammo by shooting missiles which wouldn't hit anyway.
The increased firerate module is a bit better imho, but also needs a buff to make it worth using instead of another weapon module.
Doubling the AMS ammo/t for IS was a big buff and made it alot more viable.

Maybe things will change, if we ever get LAMS.

EDIT: Radar Dep. does nothing if you're pushing, get narced or tagged. AMS helps you AND your teammates in all these situations.
As Ghost Badger said, Radar + AMS is best.

When I'm in my LRM troll and I see AMS I just Apha my 40LRMs into them in one big pack. Sure they take less damage but not enough to save them, especially if anyone else is also LRMing.

If you don't like LRMs, make yourself a LRM troll and make everyone else hate them as much as you do :P

Interesting, my evidence in-game is different. And I'm talking in game, not on the forums. Because General Forums is very different.

In game all I see is "LRM faqs" "LURM pu$$ys" "another f**king lumfest of no-skill lurmtards." I see no one worried about how effective they are or how to combat them. Just jacka$$es braying like jacka$$es (to put it very nicely.) Meanwhile SRMs, ACs, and Pulse-vomiting mechs are racking up 2, 3, 4+ kills, every game, remaining a threat at 60, 40 even 30%.

Perhaps people come to the forums and change their tune to cry to PGI. I've stopped reading those threads. But in-game, it's nearly endless attempts to guilt and shame LRM users out of existence through simple bigotry.

Heavy AMS usage would probably not change that tune.

Same. In game I see all these complaints...and I know that we brought a single LRM-boat and direct-fire mechs who don't suck. But if they see a single missile warning, it blows their ******* minds.

The whining doesn't stop me from pouring on the LRMs.

I am terrible at Assault mechs...just hate them. But I have a Battlemaster I want to level up and now Atlas mechs (one Founder and one gift). Since I suck as an Assault pilot, LRMs are my best shot and if I can boat them...the better.

Got to do what you got to do :)

That part, right there, is where MW:O's AMS differs from TT's AMS. In BT/TT, your AMS only fires at one group of missiles coming at you.....if someone fires 2 LRM15s at you and you have a single AMS, you get to pick which launcher to apply it to.

Here, it just spazzes until you're out of ammo. Worst thing you can do is get the extended range for the AMS...it just makes it burn ammo all the faster.

You might want to try the ~ key. ;)
