I lost 25 games in a row yesterday. I was ready to turn the game off forever, PPC my house and find a new planet to live on. All I could think of was; One side wins and the other side loses. I should win half the time. What's going on? How come I keep losing?

First of all, I've been lying to you but I was lying to myself so it's slightly more okay. I did not lose 25 games in a row, my 'Mech was dissabled 25 games in a row. There is a difference even if it does not feel any different. Usually all the opposing team, and about half the winning team, have their 'Mech's disabled. That's three quarters of the people. That means your odds of surviving a match are about 25%, about 1 in 4. Having your 'Mech disabled even up to 6 times in a row, mathematically, isn't a surprise. I got frustrated and logged off early, so I have no idea how many of those matches were actually losses. Next I was exaggerating. There were probably a couple of survivals in there. With so many defeats though, they got swept under the rug.

I was grinding my B 'Mechs. I was playing the 'Mechs I don't normally play to get them experience, so I could keep improving my favorite 'Mechs. Remember that you must level up 3 of the same chassis to be able to start leveling up the next stage of skills. These B 'Mechs don't suit my style of play and so I do poorly with them. Everyone will consider different 'Mechs to be B 'Mechs. (Remember that Omni-Mechs can switch their Omnipods so you can pretty much give any of them your favorite loadout but you'll lose the 2.5%xp bonus for having a matching set of omnipods.)

I was playing frustrated. This lead to being impatient and running forward into bad situations. I stopped playing smart, offering advice when I saw my team falling apart, using cover and retreating when I was in trouble.

It is unfair. There are players out there with more experience, faster reflexes, more upgraded 'Mechs and even cheat programs that will get you banned and your account deleted. You may be facing a team who is better coordinated with designated ECM, scouts, spotters and chatspeak to better communicate with each other. But if you can keep playing you will get better at the game, be able to upgrade your 'Mechs and you can join a team any time you want. This will mitigate most of those advantages.

How do you feel better? For starters, complain. This is a lovely thread. Complain here. Get it out of your system, get your head back in the game and go get them. Focus on your victories. I have watched a lot of MWO videos and it's rare to see a defeat video. Let the defeats go. Learn from them and move on. Don't hold grudges against someone who beat you. It was a five minute game and consider how much time it has bothered you. Move on to the next game and focus on the next victory you have. Finally you could write rants. That's where you go to, say, the MWO forums and make a great big long post about your defeats to get it out of your system.

So true, and so well said. Funny how people always remember, and exaggerate the negative streaks, but forget the positive ones.

Everyone wants to win. Clanners, IS, Pirates in the Periphery, and all of the above, they all have their green envious faces filled with jealousy as they get schrecked (anyone get the battletech tank reference?) back to the Dark age.

It's only natural to rage quit when you don't win a match. It's just like if we were back in school, would you be proud of failing a class? Would your mother/father/family/friends/mercenaries be happy if you did? It's not good to rage, but it's only natural to. We all do once a bit. Just like racism, just like drugs, just like insert any type of taboo crap that the world experiences, we all have a bit into it and everyone has to see their point of view (ragers).

However, it's only justified to some extent. I did rage a while ago on the forums, I admit and I'm sorry and probably should stop drinking and posting. (Don't worry I'm not under the influence at this point in time). Some rages are not acceptable, like raging over and over about one topic with no idea what you are talking about (also another point where I saw multiple posts on the most random things ever, like the Gold mechs that were made a year ago, which that thread was made less than a week ago iirc).

So in conclusion, it's ok to rage, we are human, but it's best not to, and try to find a way to solve the issue. I was extremely frustrated with groups, pugs, and lrms at one point in time, which at this point is cured because I joined up with people in Ts3. The same goes for the loss issue, joining together and grinding more C-bills is a way to solve this.

Man, it's a good way to reach my 1650th post, I haven't realized how far I've come since my start more than a year ago! Glad to hang with you all MWO community. :D

There are times when the game can definitely seem streak-y. Mostly for me during challenges, because I want the shinies and I want them NOW. Which tends to lead me to play in a way less in tune with my talents as a Mechwarrior and more in line with what I hypothesize will allow me to meet the requirements for the reward easiest. Though I wound up just giving up on the Victor. There is no strategy that leads me to live at the end of a match besides complete and utter cowardice, which has the opposite effect on my kill results. That is to say that I often gain kills with reckless pursuit of weakened foes like a predator that smells blood.

On the other hand, there are days like today where I get what feels like a small losing streak followed by what feels like a very solid winning streak. I say "feels like" because I know empirically that it was not an actual streak in either case. I started the evening by playing my Atlases, since I really want to elite my K and just get rid of the blasted thing. You can see how that attitude might color my perspective. Once I got my doubles done on them (and actually had a really good game on the K, ironically enough, which was the turning point I wrote of earlier) I moved on to play a very successful match in my TDK and a match in my Locust PB that I lost, but it felt like I won because of HOW I lost. I already ranted about that in the Locust thread though.

Mainly my point is that perception of success and failure is mostly a combination of how you expect to do going into a match, how well you actually do during the match, and how much you are rewarded at the end of the shindig, which is one more reason to watch a match to the end. Also, big thumbs up for the XP bonus weekend. That was awesome.

I got the reference all right. How about we put some Schreks down instead of those turrets in Assault eh? ;)

Would be cool, though it would legit stop people from attempting a cap at all. Even if the team is up by 8-12 people against a few they would resist a full push.

Which also relates to this topic, as dual/triple PPC mobile turrets are gonna be a bit over the limit, and people will rage due to death from them.

Maybe in CW though! ;)
