Q. Can I get out of the Mech?
A. Will you be able to get out of the Mech? No. One of our gameplay design pillars is that we are putting you in the role of the pilot (MechWarrior®) in a first person perspective.

So, I took that to mean you dont get out and walk around the city, goto bars, pick up space hookers, etc.... Getting out on the battlefield is still from the pilots, first person perspective.

I'm guessing if they don't let you walk around as a pilot, you probably just see a timer tick down to respawn (for that kind of play) or you become an observer until the end of battle.

Where do you think your pilot ends up after you spend a few moments 50ft in the air?

We have no information on what happens to POV post-ejection. And even if we did, it could change between now and release.
In today's release of "Ask A Dev", it has been confirmed that upon defeat, a player may continue to observe the battle through the eyes of a team mate. Not a free camera mode that would allow cheating to occur.

It's unethical to field execute a pilot. You capture him and extort c-bills.
True... True...
But you must admit that a tiny little guy running around underfoot is running a risk of getting a Size 5000 Chuck Taylor to the noggin.

I was hopeful otherwise but that seems the most likely.
On the old MUX games you could run around fire trooper weapons (you were very lucky to even deal 1 point of dmg.) Basically the other faction could capture you, hold you in jail for some amount of time. If your team caught you, you could get back to your dropship and get in another mech sooner. Of course it was also possible to die if anyone wanted to shoot you or step on you but that was considered unfriendly competition. Anyways it was all an interesting little extra piece of realism but not a huge deal.

As long as your going after his equipment, its extremely ethical. Rather unfortunate if hes stuck in it though...
I thought usually it was standard to capture a pilot, put him through reeducation programs and then make him fight for you side? You get the equipment whether he dies or not. It isn't necessary to kill them on the field if they pose no threat.

Plenty of 'Mechs got machine guns, flamers, small pulse lasers, etc that make very short work of infantry.
Also, the Dictum states that an enemy that surrenders is to be killed.
