My system is a stock OC Alienware Area 51 R2. I have yet to begin my own OC and wanted to get an idea of what I could get out of the box as is before pushing it and possibly considering alternative cooling options.

I am testing FPS in normal game modes. I haven't tried my luck with CW just yet.

i7 5930k supposedly OC to 3.9.

My OC is 4.3GhZ, and my RAM is DDR4-2666. DDR4-2133 does perform noticeably worse, though you *shouldn't* have any bandwidth problems since it's quad-channel. You might want to take a look at tightening the timings on the RAM, though. The extra 400MhZ on the CPU does make a difference, too. Also, you might as well disable SLI in the MWO profile. It's supported, but it's got a few issues.

Played around with the user.cfg a bit this morning. This is what I've come up with. I lowered the water tess. because it looks artificial at the full 85 it is by default on very high. The rest of this is pretty much just eye candy. Performance has taken a slight hit, nothing too major. Still averaging 75-85 with highs in the 140-160s. The annoying terrain loading issue is definitely better, not perfect but greatly improved. If you have the horsepower to spare, try these out.

And as far as sli is concerned I simply disable it before loading up MWO because I have always gotten mech bay ghosting in game with it enabled or at the very least major lighting issues. Do I also have to disable it in the MWO profile? Because it doesn't seem as though there is a setting for sli in the profile itself.

I haven't played MWO in a couple of months but I would imagine my 3960x @ 4.8 should getting similar if not better numbers than these Haswell-e chips that don't clock that high. I would think
a 500mhz clock speed advantage would make up for the architectural advantage haswell-e has over sandy-e.

Now if only I could test this out. Alas no Internet for me right now.

WOW - My gosh! That config file looks good and I was fairly locked at 50+ FPS for an entire game. I had a couple and I mean 1 -3 dips down to the 39 FPS range but holy crap!

Thank you xWiredx !!!!

Now to work on OC and see what else I can get.

When We Oc'd my Liao mates 5820 the other night, we simply locked all cores...or Sync'd them as Intel stated......and set the muliplier to 43 with a single voltage bump to Vcore after he BSOD when we got crept up to 42X multiplier 4.1 was no volts required.............one Corevolt bump and bam, stable and screaming, holding him above 60FPS with his MSI GTX 980.........

The dreaded tessellation can be lowered? I'll have to get on that as, historically, CryEngine + TWIMTBP + AMD GPU = artificial performance hit.

How do y'all play with such low FOV? In a mech with extremely limited viewing angles from the cockpit, like the Atlas, I can see it but for the mechs I normally play that'd be like wearing blinders.

That said, Holy FPS plummet, Batman!

One or the other was the theory, Hoss … You should test the separately.

And yes: High numbers unload the system by making things easy to render, which is, in turn, not pretty

Quick Question - Does anyone think setting up a RAMDISK would help with performance of MWO? I am just learning about RAMDISK so this might be an ignorant question. Just wondering.

Thanks.

With modern SSDs, the gains will be negligible.

Drive performance just doesn't come up with games, much; But I recommend RAM Disk, which I heard about here, for the temp and browser cache directories.

Putting an instance of the page file on one is prown to starting philosophical arguments about page files and disk caches in the first place …

Wow ram drives are so 1990's.
I used to so them all the time.
That reminds me, just check windows is not using virtual memory, turn it off. Your rig should have enough memory.

Cheers
Oh and ssd over ram disk.

I'm behind on my reading, but I do have a recent run on Bog for y'all:

This is Envro Low, Object Medium, Effects High, Glow, V-Sync, and AA all off, and everything else Very High; I've let Task1 go back onto core 5, just to see what's to see, and added e_TerrainTextureStreamingPoolItemsNum of 1024.

Out of game, we have

Ditching the in-game AA might have been the silver bullet … Posted Image

Oops: V-sync in the driver is still "force off," left over from the peak fps tests.

So as far as I can tell, MWO has a set page file that is 32MB at max or something like that. Inconsequential, and it probably prefers RAM for everything (especially with most systems being equipped with 8GB+ these days, which present games really don't take full advantage of). MWO, like pretty much every game, doesn't really care about such things. If anybody tries to say otherwise, I will demand proof and then ignore them forever when they don't present any.

I need to take some time to look in-depth at the rest of the user.cfg stuff. I just started pulling out random items that looked interesting and seeing what they did, what impact they had, etc. I'm pretty happy with my extra bit of eye candy right now, but if I can pull just a little more out, and maybe keep my fps a little more stable, I think it'll be worth it. Any suggestions off-hand?

And even if there is writing to the page file it doesn't mean it is deleted from ram, that only happens if the space is needed for other things.
