just had to make this topic after playing quite possibly my best locust match ever in the new LCT-PB. Absolutely love this mech.

anyways, everyone was dead, there were 4 mechs left, hellbringer, dwf, kitfox, and another one. basically came up behind the whole team and 1v1'd the hellbringer and the dwf, then duo'd the last 2 mechs at the same time. was insane. this is already after getting 4 kills.

I love the PB. Can't decide if I prefer 2MG+4SPL or 2MG+2MPL. One drives more like a sneaky -3M, and the other like a baby-3L raven.

My best 3 matches have been (and I always play light, so my ELO was about right)
- 4 kills, 9 compents, 749 damage (in the 3M coring out 2 while they were sniping my team, and taking down 2 mano-e-mano)
- 3 kills, 4 assists, 6 comp, 723 (fighting off several heavies in mining collective with the PB trying 2SPL, 2ML + 2MG)
- 4 kills, 7 assists, 9 comp, 782 damage (in the PB with 4SPL)

I can't remember the guys name but this weekend I played 2 matches with a PB Locust driver. One with and one against. This guy was a ghost. Once he got in close no one could nail him down. He had damage and kills like you guys above. Riding in his cockpit would induce seizures from the flashes of the lasers and machine guns.

I can't quite nail down what makes him so powerful as compared to other ecm lights like the Raven or Spider. Is it acceleration? Size? Machine guns? Maybe it is just the pilot.

I would think MGs in this mech would be a bad idea in that it forces you to face stare at your target which is just begging for your target to get a bead on you. Would think quick back-stabs and slash and zoom attacks would be the order of the day in that thing. But it looks like it's doing well regardless. I've been tempted to get it but it is hard to justify over the Spider (which I already have).

I think its a combination of size speed and awareness, the mg's certainly help..also depends what your going up against, and knowing where you can stand and not get hit.

I'm not a good light pilot by any stretch of the imagination but I get 600 plus damage and 4 kills now and then.
sadly even in an average game for me i'm often in the top three with a locust..

its nemesis though are still streaks clan in particular

First game in the thing I got 3 Kills and 7 assists. and 2 of those kills were most damages.

I love the Pirate's bane. but I gotta master the Stalkers before I can move onto them.

i agree with you there, streaks are the bane of the locust. streak SCR's and TBR's are the two mechs i can't seem to really solo, the TBRs have so much firepower and can torso twist fast enough i can't stay behind them.....

you know i used to feel the same way. the mgs have a 156m effective range however with the quirks and weapon module, and 156m was enough for me to poke with. if it was 90m i wouldn't nearly be as effective

I like the locust 3m, i have mine equiped with x2 MPL and a ML. Great for pinpiont damage to get those armour stripped components.

I was thinking about getting the PB, but i already have three locusts from the phoenix pack. Then again locusts are the most fun i've had in a mech for a while.

It's the acceleration I think. I play ravens, firestarters and (post quirk) locusts. Going back to my ravens is now hard. If you turn a corner and see 3 assaults, in the Raven or FS you're gonna die. In a locust the small size and high deceleration and acceleration means you can reverse or keep running. I love destroying turrets in the locust too. Find a tiny bit of cover, pop out just long enough for the ML, then return. You take 0 damage because the turret doesn't have time to register & fire.

Any +400 dmg and/or +2 kill matches with my Locust 3M.

It seems either I do well, or fail miserably. I guess that is about true with any mech as light as a Locust. High risk/high reward.

PB is the boss! 2ML and 2MPL, and yep all other lights feel sluggish.

I mastered the FS-A last night, its a great mech but hasn't got that locust agility edge ...but at least the FS is a tank compared to a locust!

Finished off the last 4 mechs as the only person alive on my team last night. Was probably my best performance in MWO ever. Not the damage or the score, but killing 4 (damaged) mechs alone by myself. Killed a Gargoyle, Stormcrow, Jenner, and something else. Felt good.

My new best in my LCT-1E was winning a 8 vs 1 after my team died, and 6 of them still had nearly perfect armour, my team were in disbelief when I actually killed them all in my LCT and were glad I was on there team.

ended up with 9 kills 1 assist 14 componets detroyed 900+ damage.

The LCT officially is my highest kill count mech and best mech I have piloted :D.

Locusts are secretly the most powerful mechs in the game sshhh don't tell anyone

Oh and the funny part of this story is I got a naughty gift for it: a SHS( Single heat sink)

I had some good CW matches with the PB, one of them, defending grim portico vs clans i remember killing 3 enemies, a loss in the end but the little bug performed well. In the solo queue i think my record is 4 kills in the one with 4 missile hardpoints, 3s?, using 4 srm2. And in HPG manifold i remember a nice duel with a panther, using the 1e 1m with 2 ml and srms, where my locust won, with armor only in the cockpit and one of the side torsos, every other component cherry red lol. Oh another duel, in mordor vs a (damaged) yen lo wang that underestimated an srm8 volley to the CT lol.

If used well, the locust can be a beast, every other mech is a higher priority target. And in conquest it can win matches just by capturing points. Of course, there are lots of matches where you die in one hit XD

Edit: wrong variant

I went back to my Locusts now that I bought a Pirate's Bane. I can not figure that PB out.

I'm currently running 2MPLasers and 2SLasers. I'm not having a ton of luck. I thought with ECM, it would be easier than piloting my 3M.

I haven't played the 3M in a while though either, I wonder if I would be just as bad in that lol.

For the PB i use 4 ml, in 2 groups of 2, for better heat management, max armor except for the cockpit and the arms, and ecm. Ferro and endo. The PB probably works well with the stock loadout, but since i wanted it to complete the cw drop deck, ammo based weapons were a bad choice.

A mpl / spl build may work well, depending on your playstile, i try to focus mine toward ecm cover, so the damage output is less important to me, still, pulse weapons limit the range a bit too much for my taste. Sacrificing a bit of speed, a 1 ERLL / LL build is probably good, but if im not mistaken the DHS consume too many crits. Maybe with SHS.
