This is not a bash LRM's post but a simple Public Service Announcement.
LRM users, please stop asking people to hold locks when you get into a game or complain when people are not holding locks in game.

90% of the players of this game hit R when hey are playing but to "hold" locks you have to be exposed and taking damage to make this happen. Try and get your own locks from time to time and if you are in an assault mech with lrms you can be exposed to hold locks, that is what all that armor is for.

Thanks!

Sadly, they do not.

And with Target Decay equipped, on a non RD target, a pilot can offer almost a full 3s of lock time without exposure.

I would like to point out that LRM boats aren't asking you to run into the open with the express intention of finding the enemy to target them, but just to have something targeted when the fighting starts. (And if they are asking this, they're doing it wrong.)

If you're fighting, you're generally taking damage anyway and extra LRMs on your target usually results a quicker kill and less damage taken. People who don't press R at all or worse, bads who unlock targets out of some childish spite will not last as long as someone who targets their enemy during a fight.

So remember:

Good communication is key to any match so I see no issue with making a request. But those pilots on the front line holding those locks are in a hot zone. If they feel they need to pull back and loose the lock the lrm boat needs to respect that. The lrms wont do much good when the front line falls.

It's more fun to see them call everyone garbage when the enemy team has ECM and no one can get LOS of the enemy team at all... but there they are, in chat... calling everyone idiots for not providing locks for them for 15secs at a time.

I especially love LRM boats who stay 1000m from the group and then tell everyone that they "left them alone" to die and how we're all special. I'm not going to babysit you back there, sorry.

BUT, stop putting LRMs on everything with a missle slot.

ALSO, please stop using IS LRMs when people are under 180m away. I can only laugh so much per match.

Or...try and bring UAVs. Then you don't have to expose your mech to enemy fire (although you do need to get close enough for the UAV to do something).

Sadly this is a foreign concept to most lrm users.

The message of this post is good - buuuuut I do disagree about the % of folks using R to target.

That's semantics, really though.

Yes... I will hold locks for as long as I can but at some point it's up to you LRM users to tank a bit of damage and use that heavy/assault armor that PGI gave ya!

BTW...is it just me, or do some sneaky pilots un-target a heavily damaged mech to prevent LRM mechs from getting the killing blow. They use an LRM mech to soften their target, then drop lock to get the kill.

It feels that way sometimes.

Yup, seen it happen. Then those same players complain about "kill steals" lol

Then wonder why they get stomped when they face better opponents who play as a team

Let's just stop putting LRMs on every missile slot like it's some kind of OCD compulsion.

Generally, that target is dead before the LRMs reach it.

The nature of sub 200 M/s travel speed. I'll take hitscan for lightspeed.

Yes this and as Spawnsalot said above pressing R is good for you and your team.

I always bring a UAV to every match because a well placed UAV can turn the game both because of LRMs and just letting everyone know where the enemy is and where they are moving.

Also as someone mentioned LRM boats need to move with the main group, if you hang so far back you are going to get picked off, I am not going to run halfway across the map to save the LRM boat who felt he needed to so far away from the enemy that they can not even get help from their own team, while being of limited help to their own team. Now if you are in the back of the main group more than likely I will turn and and try to get that mech off you that is trying to take you out.

You know what REALLY would help LRM users?

A complete LRM revamp. Starting with the angle and Line-of-Sight mechanic implementation!

*Also... Notice this is an LRM thread...*

Depends how long the engaging mech waits to break lock. *shrug*.

yeah it gets really annoying for those lrm boats to ask for locks. As for the 90% its more 99% of the time people lock targets. When i see an lrm boat ask for locks i simply type in "never" or "no" just to mess with them but i still lock targets.
