How Much Fun Are Centurions? I Never Knew!

Of course being XL instead of STD means no zombie but out of every zombie build I've tried, I've had overall better success in XL builds.
I would have to say, and no offence intended, that if you rely on he STD crutch then you're not good enough in the first place to pilot a Cent. If you are good enough then when you die to a ST coring then you can just say f it I deserved to die and move on to the next match.
The Centurion is an absolute beast out there at the moment in the right hands. Thankfully most of the comp metagamer brigade prefer to use point and click when if they had half of a functioning brain cell for themselves they would easily see the Cent for the magnificence it truly is. But sadly they can't so hey that's their loss and our gain.
In the mean time let them complain about Whales not being able to climb pebbles and Timbies being "nerfed" too hard.

You're not going to get LRMs on a YLW anyways. I've run twin MPLs on my Wang almost since I bought the thing and never felt a need to change it. Got enough ammo for the AC-20, max engine size for speed, and enough heat sinks to keep it cool. MPLs pack a punch. I've never tried a Large Pulse on it, though.

I'm not saying 2ML is never better than 1LPL. However, in this case, 1 LPL is substantially better.
I linked the specific build above; LPL+AC20. It's already moving at 100kph, has max ammo, is effectively heat neutral, and carries enough AC20 ammo if you're not bad. The LPL extends the YLW's effective range noticably, and provides a way of dealing relevant damage when the AC20 is out of range - and once the YLW has lost it's AC20 and is too badly battered to want to be really close.
Those 5 tons could go into ammo, and/or a larger engine. However, if you can't make 420 damage from your AC20 alone worthwhile, then the problem is player skill, not loadout. The XL280 pushes the YLW at 100kph, and while speed is always good, really anything over 80KPH is adequate for Centurion use. As the YLW here is effectively heat neutral, more DHS is hardly useful.
So, in a AC20 YLW build, your only options are more ammo or very slightly more speed... and only 1.5t can go into more speed, for a whopping +7kph.

I run an XL255 with 6.5T ammo (1/2 ton in RT) and 1x LL. I find the LL gives me that bit of extra range to wear down opponents before closing in with the '20. It also gives me a better chance at inflicting damage at range if a Whale spunks all over my right arm.

You're not a real CN9-pilot unless you have a massive AC. Gauss... is acceptable. LBX is good.
CN9-AH with 3 MGs?
I run the AH with 3xMGs and 3XASRMs, because of the survivability of the standard engine.
After going XL with the D though, I've realized that the extra fire power is worth it, and will be swapping to an XL next time I run it

My primary weapons on each are; A: 3xASRM6, AH: AC20/3xSRM4, AL: 2xPPC/2xSRM4
My AL plays almost exactly the same as my AH except it has more range with the PPCs. And all my Centurions follow the same principle, fire-and-twist. Centurions are incredibly survivable if you know what you are doing.

I must respectfully disagree on the standard engine. Crutch or not, I do at least twice as well with a standard engine, maintaining a winning record, and great damage/KDR for me. It could be my ELO, but it's my best mech in that configuration across weight classes. If it ain't broke... The important thing is that we can make it work well in its variety of options.

This was a YLW that didn't even have all its basic skills yet. At around 10:15 I got a little too froggy chasing a Thunderbolt, I probably should have bought it there, but defensive twisting and pure dumb luck saved my bacon. http://www.twitch.tv/escef/c/4795888
Another YLW video. This was after about 9 or 10 days of nothing but crap games, plus other real world stress. So I needed this game. At around 5:30 I mistook weapons fire that hit the ground as coming from another direction and went to check that area out. Which worked out ok, as it got me half my kills. http://www.twitch.tv/escef/c/5565012
So, anyway, yeah, the Cent is awesome.
