BIG STOMPY ROBOTS

In a genre that isn't anime and that is dark and gritty.

Heh, one could argue that anime mecha games are just as rare, and that Battletech is pretty grimdark considering the Clans and the politics of the IS.

This.

Plus, closest thing to re-capture fond memories of TT BT with friends.

*DAKKA DAKKA* BOOM POW, PEW PEW, SHEEEW-KABOOM!

*Ahem*. You get the idea. But mostly I like that you have to find the right mech for your playstyle, and craft it well! Basically It's a fun game out of the box, but if you want to REALLY get into it you can!

Charting big scores in close matches, and events that make the C-Bill grind seem less like drudging.

Literally nothing, but I like the franchise so I'm too addicted to quit.

The battlemech design artist(s) are always on point. Best thing about the game so far.

I like the forum and the community...

I've got the best TTP (Time-to-post) ratio and and a + P/D (Post to Deletion) ratio of 5,105 to 3

I actually feel like I am stomping around in a Mech. That experience really is not available anywhere else. Also the customization is pretty enthralling, I could sit in Smurfy's Lab for hours.

The guys in my unit. That's really the best thing about MWO so far.

Some of the mechs look great, and occasionally I'll get one of those 1-in-a-100 type matches that are so great you're sweating and swearing and on the edge of your seat, vibrating with adrenaline....

.... Smurfy's isn't part of MWO.

But I find this a post which PGI could listen to - as it demonstrates that while people like the customization, the accessibility of that customization has enough barriers where Players would prefer to just use a different product. I understand that they are looking to update the GUI, to make it more like Smurfy's, so it would be interesting to see if you are still using Smurfy's to satisfy that customization itch or whether Smurfy's becomes very secondary to actually playing around with fittings in the Mech Lab.

There is too damn much whining and such on the forums. People say some really harsh things about what is, after all, just a damn computer game.

As for the answer to your question, why does anyone like anything? All I know is that I enjoy playing the game. When I don't enjoy it, I don't play it as much.

The combat is bar none the most interesting of any FPS style game I have ever played. The challenges of navigating the battlefield, the choice of pathing and commitment of force, the sectional destruction of mechs and armor/internal distinction. It feels unlike anything else. I enjoyed some of the Armored Core series, ZOE series and Strike Suit Zero and all of them had appeal but nothing was as enjoyable to me as the Mechwarrior series.

What the game lacks honestly is context and appealing reqards for playing the game. Just working on mastering mechs is pretty bland in the long run. Community Warfare should to some extent add both and if it grows enough could easily make this game a very long running success.

I got into BT novels as a kid & this game allows me to immerse myself in the universe.

Also, the combat for the most part *feels* like I imagined mech combat to be. Plus the mechs look pretty rad. Finally, the depth & complexity offered by the game pushes my nerd buttons.

Not in Japan they aren't. Do you have any idea just how many Gundam games there are? They're like 99.9% total mediocrity too.

I ask this because of the constant vitriol and negativity that surround and infest the forums like a poisionous miasma, yet MWO still retains a rather widespread and loyal fan base, so obviously that means MWO still offers something that is pleasing to all of us.

We always hurt the ones we love :)

People tend to get very "passionate" about something they really like or love. This franchise has a strong and diverse following. Some players are from BT TT, some are from the Video Games (Mechwarrior, Mechcommander, Mechassault, etc...).

With such a diverse group of people, someone always thinks something is wrong or broken and blames the developer or even other players.

I think that's why this forum gets so crazy. Everyone has radically different opinions due to their different experiences and the fan base is very vocal, passionate, and determined. It creates chaos, and when PGI changes something, it throws some people into rage. Since PGI "balances" all the time, the forums are always a blaze lol.

Anyway, people overall love the franchise and they play MWO because they love the franchise. They will just let the community and PGI know when they feel a change is for the worse.

Not to point out the obvious but if something "better" comes along is it not a forgone conclusion that the cattle will simple move onto greener pastures?

Kind'a stating the obvious don't ya think?
