Coordinated team play in giant stompy robots. When CW rolls around hopefully we can add "nostalgia-based, comparatively deeper gameplay" to the mix.

Personally? I love the 'Mechs, the weapons, the maps... pretty much all of the gameplay elements...
...except for the inherent drawbacks of online multiplayer games (varying levels of connectivity, varying levels of player maturity, etc.).
If there was a single player option in this game, it would be perfect for me.

But there is no such thing. So for now what we have will have to suffice.

One other thing I like is the background music in the MechLab. I want those files so I can listen to them wherever I am, even if I am not at my computer!
I might have to roll out Audacity to nab them if I can find no other alternative. Hehehe

Not to point out the obvious but if something "better" comes along is it not a forgone conclusion that the cattle will simple move onto greener pastures?

Kind'a stating the obvious don't ya think?

Only if it's Mechwarrior. :D I have no desire to play FPS otherwise (though I do have fun with Star Wars Battlefront). It's all about the genre for me. If Chris Roberts decided to change SC into the entire Battletech universe in MMO form, I'd send him my children.

Visceral, immersive core gameplay offered for free forgives a lot of sins, even delayed deadlines. The longevity can only take the game so far; eventually, missions and campaigns need to enter the game. But their basic game is still a triumph, especially given they crunched it together in just six months. People keep forgetting that.

For me:

Kid of 80's anime: I get to pilot giant mechs!

Infinite customizability of loadouts.

Short attention span action.

Level playing field: no real advantage in hardware for old or new players.

Fun.

I like it when you shoot at a mech that is obviously AFK - then suddenly all of his teammates come after you....

I like it when you are caught napping, and are too far from the team, and two mechs come back for you - with the message "hurry up - We'll cover you..."

I like it when the team is too far from the base - and it's about to be captured, so you race in there to buy them some time, knowing you are going down, but just staying alive as long as you can...

I like it when you are down 11 to 7, and your last wounded guy, with one laser left, actually beats the remaining 5 to win in the end.

I like it when you've fought like a demon, and you are down to the last two mechs - standing in their base while capturing it, firing your lasers in the air in a celebration salute.

I like it when you get jumped by three light mechs and actually kill all three...

I like it when in a last desperate move, you jump on top of the Dire Wolf so he can't shoot you.

And all of this just scratches the surface....

Not only is it a Mechwarrior game, but I'm fairly good at it.. except when it comes to playing lights.

The customization in the mechlab and the actual combat are way better than anything else I have found. I can't think of a single game that offers the same or better feel in combat, at least in my opinion.

For me?

I'm a huge fan of BattleTech, despite learning about the series recently. I've played (and own) MW4:Mercs, MegaMek, and MWO, if you could call a F2P game "owned".

And of those games, I feel MWO is the best, not only does it feel more realistic then MW4:M, by a good amount, but it's far more action packed then either MW4:M or MegaMek.

And a decent money/time sink too. :D
