Last night (Dec. 3, 2014) on Alpine. I was with a lancemate fighting the last two enemies way up on I12. We killed the Timberwolf and then we found the 6xLRM5 Catapult. We decided to pick him apart because it's an annoying build. We took his ears, then a leg... Sometime during that someone on our team said...

"Stop playing with your food!"

Being somewhat inebriated, damn that was hilarious. Missed my next carefully aimed shot at further precise disassembly and accidentally killed the Catapult.

Thank you for giving me a good laugh and making that match just that much more special and memorable.

(BTW, 6xLRM5 Catapult is a really bad build. At least make room for some SRMs so you can deal with arseholes like me.)

Bet you used to like to pull the wings off of flies as a kid too.

People get older, but they never change.

Lol. Good story.

I admit that I have run the 6 LRM5 build before. The waterfall of LRMs is fun, but like you pointed out, painfully lacking without support.

Its a troll build that either goes well, or fails miserably.

Still, that A1's tears were probably delicious lol.

The moment I see 6xLRM5 A1, I will shoot both arms off with 2 to 4 shots (depending on my config) and go for another mech, unless that's the last mech.

In one of the "bring collisions and knock downs back" threads there's a video of a bunch of people taking turns knocking a LRM5x6 CPLT on its backside over and over again and cackling.

I do the same thing to lrm boats. I just like for them to have time to think about their mistakes. Though coming across the occasional pure lurm stalker or atlas is like hitting the lotto

This statement is untrue, but they don't change without effort.

but overall it would be lovely if A1 drivers would give up two LRM5s for a pair of SRM6, it really is a free kill if you can close on them in any mech - i've killed them in a head-laser HBK :|

I just don't get this attitude some MWO players have about denigrating and torturing LRM boats. Seems pretty sick to me.

Artillery has been a part of every battlefield since the 16th century. It's a very effective part of a combined arms team. It has always been an easy kill for fast units that get behind enemy lines.

I just don't get why, in this game in particular, some people get off on acting like 12-year-old freckle faced sadists when they catch an LRM boat. Where does that come from?

When I catch an LRM boat unprotected I kill it and move on. I don't find it necessary to fondle myself and drool while doing it like some....

Riverboat Sam has no time for games, it's serious business out there.

Sorry man, I was field artillery and at no point did some guy 3 miles away pop his head over a hill and look at something and our ordinance magically hit it. Not even while squinting really hard and wishing :)

ill admit, I generally try and kill something as fast as i can and move on. Most times you just dont have the time to sit and pick a mech apart like this anyway. But when a mech like the LRM pure boat is caught alone, IM SORRY... its SOOOOOOOOOO fun picking it apart for the extra component bonuses lol.

Umm I used to smack flies out of the air to stun them, then would toss them into spiders' webs and watch the spiders attack. Does that count?

To be fair it's fun to pick apart any long-range based mech if you're in under his range(PPCs for instance), so it's not necessarily only a LRM thing.

One thing to clear up though, you do actually make more from killing a mech with less destroyed components, often time the Salvage bonus is higher than the combined Component Destroyed bonuses. This is why a head or CT shot is actually more CBill-efficient, however less fun, than picking the mech apart.
