Long ranges: 240 tons
Misery
Stalker 4N
Raven 3L
Raven 3L

Medium ranges: 240
Cataphract Ilya
Cataphract 3D
Cataphract 3D
Spider 5D if you are an ECM **** or 5K if you got dah bollz (only here because of tonnage limit)

Close range:
Probably just 4 Shadowhawks. I don't know which the best are so thats up to the person who is piloting them.
Might swap some for a Jaeger with AC40, and a Firestarter A

With each player being restricted to 240 tonnes for their dropship matches...

...It's gonna be real funny fighting Stieners with no Atlases.

2 x ATlas
2 x Locust

I'm sure they'll just play the Locusts like throwaways.

And that is a serious, serious problem.

I'm thinking my Spheroid drop deck will be 2xBattlemaster and 2xFirestarter.

If I end up doing any clan fighting, probably a Hellbringer, 2xMad Dog, and a Stormcrow.

For IS mechs that I've mastered and have done well in, I've considered:

STK-5M or BLR-1G (Brawler vs Support)
Flame or Firebrand (Leaning Firebrand)
SHD-2H (might stick with SRMer, but can spec for Support too)
CDA-3M or (Ember / Huginn if going Firebrand)

or maybe

Banshee
Ilya
CDA-3M
Ember

I haven't fully committed to what I will take, but that's where I'm starting at with what I have right now, and it's likely not the best 240 possible, but these mech seem to suit me just fine. And since I can play Commandos and Locusts I've been considering other drop-decks, but those I'm not so sure about.

best for what? best for you, that is easy. What are you good at?
Me I am good at medium and heavy mechs, so this weight limit hit me right in the sweet spot. Players who only know how to Assault or are going to be in for a hard time.

I think specifically taking a group of mechs who preform the same role would be best for CW. while taking a mixed bag of mechs who do two or 3 roles would be bad. You can focus entirely on one role. it is likely that most of CW will be group drops who will have filled out the every role as best they can so you likely won't have to worry about being a huge support player and can focus mostly on damage based builds. However that doesn't mean you should expect them to baby you and protect you, you should be following their lead because they are probably in a voice chat to spread information better.

3 of the 55t mechs, and a TDR. Your favourites from the GRF, SHD and WVR. Or if the GHR turns out good, a GHR, SHD, WVR, and GRF. I have the feeling that Assaults are going to be too slow for CW. Big maps mean mechs like the DW aren't going to be able to get anywhere where they can affect the battle.

Direct Fire Support:
War Hawk
War Hawk
Adder
Adder

ECM Direct Fire Support:
Hellbringer
Hellbringer
Hellbringer
Kit Fox

Not sure yet, on what set I want to use...

I'll bring two Atlai and two Locusts and play the Atlai as throwaways.

Yes...I like calling them Atlai despite that not being the correct plural form. They're funny to me, like giant ogres with legs almost as fun to blow up as those of the Dire Whale.

It's only 235 tons, but it's what I very-well might be going with.

BlackJack 1DC
BlackJack 1DC
BlackJack 1DC
King Crab

The first 3 Mechs are to serve as platforms to quickly burn 8.5 tons of AC/5 each in order to deliver maximum damage to the enemy team in a very short time. If I don't get killed early, this will be approximately 1500-2500 damage delivered to the enemy. King Crab will be my finisher, sure to have PPCs just to keep the fight going to the (somebody's) death.

Hunchback 4J or a cent. 50tons either way
Spider 5D

This whole dropdeck mechanic is an interesting play for PGI to encourage more purchases. Clearly some mechs are standout and competitive player will want 2-4 of the same chassis, and if that chassis hasppens to be a hero, well whoop$$$
