Just for my own knowledge, will they always be 3slots or will it ever drop to 2slots like the Clan versions?

They seem functional, but it makes it difficult to allocate space like this.

PGI doesn't want to alter tonnage or critical slots on any items, so they will always be 3 slots. The best way around this is to try to upgrade your engine a few ratings to fit more into it (easier if you're using an XL).

AFAIK, yeah, IS DHS will be occupying 3 crit slots through this period of BattleTech's Timeline.

I dunno if they do change in the future at all, off hand, but for MWO they're gonna be 3 crit slots, with Clan DHS being two.

The only future heatsink types are:

3058 --> IS Compact Heatsinks: SHS that weigh 1.5 tons each, but you can fit 2 of them into a single critical slot (you can also fit twice as many into the engine slots). However, they are still pretty bad and nobody would ever use them in MWO (or even TT).

3051 --> Clan Laser Heatsinks: DHS that have reduced benefits and reduced penalties from environmental temperature (similar to the Hellsinger Hero's quirk), and reduced ammo explosion likelihood from high heat (doesn't apply to MWO). Viable but very rare.

Ahh ok, I never understood the differences but thank you for the explanation!

I think around 3055 or later experimental heatsinks start up, a clan laser style iirc, there's a IS corrosive heatsink that was something like 1 ton 1 slot each, for 2 points of heat per unit. But aside from needing frequent (yearly to weekly, even if not seeing combat) replacement due to heavier wear and tear, those are what the future holds. Oh, and half sized ones that give .5 cooling for .5 tons, and can fit 2 per slot. I think those were made for the whole crit stacking shields to protect stuff like gauss weapons.

Oops someone above posted Accurate info. Disregard.
