The Gargoyle will be under gunned, but it will have enough speed to keep up with Mad Cats and Lokis. The mech won't get left behind to fend on it's own half the time like the Daishi does.
It really isn't under gunned. Realistically it will mount about the same exact tonnage in weapons as a Hellbringer. You got to keep in mind that it has 3 more fixed DHS so that is 3 tons of DHS you don't have to add compared to a Hellbringer, then there is still 20-21 tons left over.
Then you have to consider it is going to have a hell of alot more armor without the protruding chest which means it should be able to torso twist defensively much better than the Hellbringer. Also ECM is more of a gimick on the Hellbringer at least in my experience because despite not being targetable, your still rather large and noticeable.
Anyway, Gargoyle should be pretty decent and depending on hitboxes and how good it can defensively twist, it might rival a T-wolf (though I am not expecting it to be quite that good hehe).

People were frothing at the mouth for an ECM heavy with decent pod space. I'm not sure where you're getting this idea that a large majority of forum posters were calling HBR "DOA."
It was DOA for about 3 days due the the massively screwed up CT hitboxes. Really the mech was almost unplayable at that point so even I was screaming DOA on day one. Now though, it is a pretty solid mech. Not quite T-Wiolf caliber but good nonetheless.

The truth about the HBR is that ECM is just a nice finishing touch.
The strength of the HBR is in it's overall hardpoints, ability to run a solid asymmetrical build and some fantastically placed high ballistic & energy mounts.
The HBR would be a very good mech even without ECM.
Obviously, I'd love the added tonnage Endo would bring - however not having endo (or locked JJs) makes the HBR one of a small handful of clan mechs that can make full use of it's CT & Leg slots.
Which comes in handy for DHS for those asymmetrical builds, as when you lose your shield side you likely still have most or all of the external DHS you slotted.
Agree. ECM as I mentioned above, is kind of a gimick and really does very little for the survivability of this mech. I won't deny it cuts down on LRMs but the enemy has no trouble visually spotting a Hellbringer and bringing it under direct fire. Also the ECM makes you a priority target so you will always be the first thing the enemy tries to take down.

This is spot on. This is why the Hellbringer is good. I run some crazy builds on it but for some odd reason it just works very well on a Hellbringer and that is 100% due to the hard points and their location.
I also agree that I would love to add at least endo. 3 extra tons of space would open this bad boy up to some amazing builds but I can leave with it as is.
