The small profile of the King Crab is definitely going to be an issue on flat maps, and it's going to be an issue when the King Crab manages to take the high ground. But looking at the bird's eye view, you have to realize that it probably has the biggest CT hitbox of any mech in the game. It's CT is going to be extremely exposed on maps with a lot of levels, like Canyon or Veridian Bog. Basically, taking the lower ground with the King Crab is like asking for someone to pop your CT.

Kind of ironic that it's huge shell will probably be its weakness.

also, any hints on the 3rd variant?

From the mechlab screenies, the hardpoints are as follows:

2 ballistic
4 energy
4 missile

4 ballistic
3 energy
3 missile

6 ballistic
2 energy
2 missile

So much dakka, pewpew, and whoosh whoosh to boat.

I dunno, the rest of the Wave II robots had fairly generic and meh quirks applied ahead of time...

I'm expecting a lot of Gargoyles to get eaten by teh Crabz as they both push the assault queue to over 80%.

Quirks were not ready yet.

I see 3 "unique" ones.

6B 2E 2M
4B 3E 3M
2B 4E 4M

I was expecting one with LAAs.

when I posted, they were no, as the 0000 was double posted.

Expect some fool to run 4 LRM20s with 2 medium lasers. Delicious food for my Locust.

Don't even have the critslots for that. :P

Also, 6 MGs + 2 LPL + 2 whatever LRM size will be a completely stupid troll build.

So... King Crab has 10 hardpoints on every variant.

AS7-D: 8 hardpoints (2 in CT)
AS7-D-DC: 7 hardpoints
AS7-RS: 7 hardpoints
AS7-K: 6 hardpoints (2 in CT)

Spoiler

EDIT: Unless I'm reading the charts incorrectly, King Crab also has 120 degree torso twist. So... more than any other assault mech in the game. And it's not really comparable to other mechs with torso twist + arm range, because the King Crab can actually bring 100% of its firepower to bear on any target inside those 120 degrees.

To everyone who thought the King Crab would be some sort of clumsy Direwolf-clone that people would be running circles around.... ggclose.

On a positive note, it's cool that the IS has received a mech that can rival the firepower of Clan assault mechs.

We already had one, the Atlas, perhaps you've heard of it? In fact, the KGCs will be packing less firepower than most Atlases, because SRMs are more damage-to-tonnage efficient than big bore ACs (though the pinpoint potential of twin AC20 or twin Gauss is nasty).

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to the KGC. But evaluate things realistically.

You'll have to help me with that. I must have misunderstood something.

As far as I can tell, King Crabs have more hardpoints than the Atlas and better torso twist, while having the same tonnage. If you want to pack 4 SRM6's on your Atlas, fine, the King Crab can do that too. And it will have more hardpoints available for backup weapons.

Looks neat.

I can't wait to blow its arms off. Just aim in its general direction and you should hit them.

Really love everything I see in that video and those screenshots. I really look forward to getting my hands on this mech in just under two weeks. I'm a dedicated light pilot, but I know what Assault will be going into my Dropship for Community Warfare to fill up some tonnage.

I have an AC20, 4xASRM4, and 4xML on my AS7-S, with endo steel and a 350 engine. And I had to strip the legs down to around 57 and the arms to 60. If you think that the KGC will be able to fit more firepower than an Atlas without making serious compromises to armor, engine, cooling, or ammo than you are out of your mind.

This is the level of previews that get people hyped, wouldn't have been leaks if it was this more frequently.

LOL. Could Cattra have possibly run worse builds in those DWs and Warhawks?
