Is this really the case? I saw a ... gameplay video ... and a friendly mech just totally went through the players mech from behind.

I think this is quit a terrible idea if this is the case, its not realistic at all and if you can just run straight through other mechs there is quite a big hit to strategy.

After I read this, I reminded myself... http://i.imgur.com/e5KeC.jpg

If you think a game in early beta is what what the finished product will be, then you apply.

Not everything is enabled yet... ya know what, I'm not even going to continue explaining this to you.

So what you are saying is....an unfinished game is....unfinished? And which video did you see this in?

So this is why we have NDAs. I always wondered.

other than the obvious... ie it is a beta... it may have just been when you spawn into the game

While I would debate that a game 5 weeks from release is past 'early beta', I will instead say that whether or not things collide with each other is a core design mechanic and one does not change those as a result of, or during the course of beta. So I'm fairly certain what we see is what we get as far as things like that.

The video I'm referring to is the leaked footage, where at the start, a friendly atlas goes straight though the player's mech from behind, because the player's mech is stationary. So from his cockpit the atlas just comes up out of nowhere instead of getting run over.

I am almost sure you there will be no clipping between Mechs in the final game, not even friendlies. I just think that is how it may be implemented now for friendly units when they spawn, probably because for the beta they may have just written a quick and dirty spawn system just to get players instantly into the match. If you noticed, the player hits play and he instantly goes into the match... there is no context, no start timer, no groups, nothing. Surely this aspect of the game was simply not meant to be tested by the closed beta participants and was probably stripped from the beta client.

Oooooooooh so this is that whole out of context thing! Durrrrrrr :D Leave it to some guy to find incomplete game footage and think it's finished. It's like saying you saw 5 mechs in the video and that there will never be anymore.

I hope so :D

Guess we'll see in a month.

Oh man, Piranha is making themselves look like fools. It's clearly in an unfinished state; if only there were a way to let the general public know that there are still a plethora of bugs and incomplete features. I would probably call it a "Charlie" version of the game, maybe even a "Delta" copy...hmm

How about we call MWO a "Beta" or something? Sounds stupid but we must have a way of designating these unfinished games.

I'm going to state what others have stated.. I have seen MANY titles that turn off friendly collision during the spawn process.. Then after you separate it is back on.

The was a pilot skill for reducing ramming damage...sooooo...we can presume there will be ramming in the finished game which would in itself imply that there will not be Mech clipping in the finished game.

Broceratops, check your inbox. I'm not keen on discussing specific details of that video in the forums, but it confirms collisions.

Thanks. I'm not ragging on the game here, I just was curious as this would have been a big deviation from previous gameplay.

Because it wasn't in the footage from an unfinished game... seems logical. This by the way if why they DON'T show videos like that. If it was a deviantion you would have seen a video from PGI showing it, instead you got clips edited together to not show it because it wasn't done yet.

It is in the video, it's just later on in the video.

Where has it been stated that the game will release in 5 weeks? As far as I know mid september is still summer. Your 5 weeks puts it around August which isn't release and hasn't been said to be release either.
