Well...A hero mech has to be unique. And preferably rare.

So why not the KGC-010?

Sarna explanation:

This version of the King Crab was created by the Star League to be a command 'Mech and introduced alongside the original 000 model in 2743. Conceived in secret between Cosara and the Terran Hegemony, it was an attempt to produce a deadly command 'Mech by mounting a pair of newly-developed Hellstar MagnaPPCs in either side torso. These PPCs were different from other models in that they did not require an outer "barrel" but instead were mounted flush with the torso, each opening surrounded by a specially-designed HollySRM-6 launcher, while the cooling sleeves extended out the back of the 'Mech. In place of the normal autocannons the 010 model carried LB-10Xcannons. The combination of the non-standard housing and odd-colored discharge of the PPCs caused many pilots to believe they were facing a brand-new weapon systems, while the spine-like protrusions of the cooling sleeves produced massive heat-diffusion waves. All told the 010 model was more than capable of taking down an Atlas, but the entire line left with Kerensky during the Exodus and even knowledge of the design's existence became lost during the Succession Wars

Unique things=

- Energy slot and missile slot in each side torso
- Unique PPC firing mechanism
- Cooling sleeve of PPC in back and spine protusions

Hardpoint suggestion=

-2 Ballistics. 1 in each arm
-2 missile, 1 in each side torso
-4 energy . 2 in each side torso. 1 Specially mounted in SRM rack for Magna-star PPC
-2 AMS

Quirks=
+10% firing speed LB 10X
+10% velocity PPC
+10% firing speed SRM

[This seems underwhelming towards the other king crabs. But it is unique compared to them.

The unique PPC's would be way cooler than lame Comstar shenanigans with the 001

As hilarious as that would be, I could probably see it having a name like 'Defender' or 'Liberator'. In fitting with Grandpa Kerensky's 'Protector'.

KGC-010

Quite hot, but perfectly possible. If this mech would be released, i would either swap out the LB 10's with UAC 5'.s Or remove the SRM 6's and just use the 2 LB 10X & PPC

Hardpoint suggestion:

5 balistics in each arm
4 missile in left torso
4 laser in right torso
1 AMS
1 ECM

There are plenty of rare mechs that left with the clans that I would like to see in MWO.

^This. I think it does not need to be a 100% perfectly like this (since people might want to install a Laser instead, but at least the SRM's should be "surrounding" the Engery-Slot (see Orion for comparison).
(On the other hand I do not really care about the "cooling sleeves extended out the back of the 'Mech".)

Plus I really would like to see a Crab with a 100% symmetrical Torso.
PGI, don't screw this up; you showed us with the Atlas S that you can change some aspects of a mech to get some different esthetics's.

Please open up the "hidden Star League Supply Cache" where a couple of those Crabs survived the Exodus and the Succession Wars. ;)

Another thing - They could work on that thing they said they would do, but didn't (switching ammo) - a pipe dream now. That KC the OP posted has 6 tons of ammo stock. 3 tons are Cluster, 3 tons are Standard shot.

could we go back to Hero's that aren't reskinned "normal" variants we should have access to without spending IRL money?

I'd rather my heroes be actually different.

meh.

I still want 4 missiles per arm, 1 energy per torso. Stock have it come with 8x SRM4 and 2 PPC. No ballistics at all to differentiate it. Have a 16 missile per arm 1-2 punch. Give it lower arm actuators.

since the whole production line left with Kerensky, and the design was forgotten or lost. maybe PGI can give  the KGC-010 a whole new design. change the whole torso so its bigger than the standard King Crab in order for it to be able to mount  a ppc in each side torso with a srm6 mounted around the ppc barrels so it will ( be a little taller), lower arm actuators for horizontal arm swing. anyway, I see the mech looking bigger and different than standard KC.

Bump!

I was about to make a thread with this exact same idea. I like the hardpoint suggestions, as for quirks I was thinking something along the lines of:

increased ppc velocity

increased srm velocity

tighter lb-x spread

increased lb-x velocity

increased cooldown time for ppc

decreased cooldown time for lb-x

Not sure what the exact numbers would be on those, but I'd leave it up to PGI to figure that out.

Srms definitely have to be coiled around the PPCs, like an Orion arm. And the spinal protrusions are also a must. Maybe they should glow on the underside too? I think a lot of hero mechs deserve unique geometry like this and the recent resistance and invasion variants. This would be a good start to extend that trend to hero variants (perhaps the existing hero mechs can receive unique geometry updates at some point, but that's a lower priority than designing new variants).

I think the color of the PPC should be red! And the heat diffusion behind the mech should be increased. That would give this mech a really cool presence on the battlefield. If they made this I would buy, no hesitation.

The hero mech deserves a unique name other than KGC-010 designation. Options off top of my head:

KGC-E | Eve

KGC-X | Exodus

KGC-LoM | Light of Mankind

Decal also needs to be unique. I like the idea of a homage to Word of Blake, some design based around a sword (like the below example). This would be a cool foreshadow of future Blakist Jihad, or just cool in general if PGI doesn't have plans yet to move that far in the timeline. Or, maybe a more Clan-like decal as a reference to how it was part of the Star League Exodus (like the Orion Protector hero).

Tabletop miniature of the mech as visual example of the unique srm/ppc combined hardpoint and the spinal rear-facing horns (camospecs.com):

Please make! Would buy!

never understood the logic to make a command mech assault instead of a fast light
a commander shouldn't fight at the first lane should they, but s/he definitely should be able to flee if needed

btw some clan commanders in books used light mechs, ice ferret (that guy who tried to get the genetic legacy of kael pershaw), kit fox (a khan of ice hellions)

For sure, I feel the most useful in command either when I'm piloting the lightest mechs (who aren't going to make much of a damage contribution anyways) or large lrm fire support mechs (who are usually in the rear anyways). Brawlers, scouts and ambush mechs don't have time to command.

I don't think a hero mech has to be defined as a command mech, so I'm not sure where this point came from, but good advice anyways.
