First of all, who isn't super psyched to finally have some mech action back in our lives? Between this and Mechwarrior Tactics I may never buy another title. Anyway, when I found out this was going to be free to play, at first I was a little upset. Kinda of like an old geezer that sees a kid talking on a cell phone. "IN MY DAY WE DIDNT HAVE BLEH BLEH...."

Anyway. Now that Ive thought about it, I realize that if this is done well, (and by well i mean not pay to win), this transaction will make the game alot better for the devs, in terms of profit, and for the player, in terms of value.
The cost is completely controlled by you, the consumer.

I am a pretty dedicated Battlefield player, so when BF3 came out earlier this year, competing against Modern Warfare and their "elite" package, I thought to myself, Thank god DICE is loyal to its fans and wont charge me an arm and a leg to keep playing online after initial purchase. Boy was I wrong. Even after purchasing lets see... pretty much every Battlefield game published, I am now expected to fork out $50 to prove i'm a "Veteran" or whatever the hell they are calling it. PGI is letting us spend money we have on a product we want, but they aren't withholding perks for the people with deep pockets. I like that, and they'll get my money because of it.
I have seen post after post of people who have bought the legendary founder's pack, and I must say, I'm pretty impressed by the amount of loyalty. I live on a budget, and $120 is pretty tight for me. I'm pretty sure I'm going to drop the $60 or at the very least $30, but it shows that this game has an incredibly high demand. But the fact that I can spend $30 and still feel like I'll have a chance at having fun on launch day against people who have the $120 to spend doesn't make me dislike people with a larger entertainment budget.

Plus the huge benefit of a F2P Mechwarrior title? The player base will stick around. Ever load up a game on a console thats only about 1-2 years old that you used to really enjoy and youre unable to find a multiplayer game? Its BS. Then the company cuts the servers. By making this is a F2P microtransaction model you'll keep it profitable for the company to keep expanding on the game, and you also allow no barrier to entry for new players. And man will it be fun stomping new players into the ground.

Anyway, I have to stop now because its getting a little too long.

Let's hear why you, the consumer, thinks F2P is a good thing for Mechwarrior™ !!

You pretty much nailed the good points. ;)

Furthermore people who claim that the founders packs are play to win really need to read more. The Inception Mechs are in no way any better than the standard Mechs that they are replacing for those that payed the price.

basically, you took the words out of my mouth..
but fighting everyone that sees this game and goes "ooh free to play.." when they don't even do research on the game to see its mechanics...
yeah.. thats gonna be fun..

Plain and simple on why I think FTP for this game is the way to go: It will keep Devs employed and in order to do that they will need to push content and keep the consumer happy. Hopefully it keeps the "consumers" happy and not the few whinny trolls out there. Also FTP will let me purchase the things I want to in game sometimes I may spend $50.00 in a month others maybe $10.00 with a possible break in between because something else comes up. A paid sub makes me feel forced to play and that's annoying.

I just hope that rare variants dont become the norm...
But i think that with old school FASA gents behind this, they'll get the picture with the right balance of fun and canon. I like that lights are actually useful.

I used to be sceptical of F2P too.
But since i cannot see this game getting any gold ammo since that's not in the canon. And the dev's are sticking to canon like they are glued to it with two component glue.

So now i've seen the light. My biggest concern is if they can really make more money this way.....but everybody says F2P generates more money than P2P so they must be right.

1 Million players with 5 dollars a month makes more than 100,000 players with 15 dollars a month.
