I would like to suggest the following feature:
Allow the players to create multiple camo-patterns for their mechs and select them after the game map has been selected, but before the game has started.

Creation in detail:
- Player creates a Camo for a certain mech in the camo creation screen.
- for this purpose, there should be an option for the players to choose from different backgrounds, each representing a typical scenery from a certain map
- the player can then save the camo; unlike now his camo will have be saved as Camo[number] - or with an individual name. So he can have multiple camos instead of just one.

(Pre-)Selection in detail:
- the player can choose which camo is his "General Default Camo" for this mech (normaly this would be the unmodified standard camo of the mech).
- the player will also be presented with a selection screen, where he can select a certain map and then select one of his saved camos as the default for this map; the default for each map would be the "General Default Camo".
- (^ this screen should have a preview-window showing the typical scenery of the map (as used in the mechlab camo creation screen) and his mech with the currently selected camo.)
- when the map is loaded, but before the games has started, the player may change that camo; if he fails to select a different camo the per-selected camo will be applied.

Pricing:

- Unlock - business as usual:
- if you unlock a pattern for a certain mech-chassis, it will be available for all variants, and the player can create and save as many different camos with this pattern as he'd like.

- One Shot- three possible options:

1. All locked:
- you have to buy a oneshot-pattern every time you create a camo.
- that camo is available only for the mech it was created for.
-- same camo (= same pattern and same colors), but different mech: -> buy oneshot-pattern again
-- same mech and pattern, but different colors: -> buy oneshot-pattern again

2. Camo free for all Variants of a Chassis:
- you have to buy a oneshot-pattern every time you create a camo.
- that camo is available for the mech it was created for PLUS all variants of the same chassis (camo created for a Nova-B = also available for Nova-Prime and Nova-S)
-- same camo (= same pattern and same colors), but different mech: -> you already have that!
-- same mech(s) and pattern, but different colors: -> buy oneshot-pattern again

3. Pattern free for one Variant of a Chassis:
- you have to buy a oneshot-pattern only once if you create a camo with it; the pattern becomes unlocked for the very variant you just bought it for.
- that camo is available only for the mech it was created for.
-- same camo (= same pattern and same colors), but different mech: -> buy oneshot-pattern again
-- same mech and pattern, but different colors: -> you already own that oneshot-pattern!

I can only speak for myself, and i'd love to be able to select a camo for a map i'm about to play, which actually works as a CAMOUFLAGE (i guess that's why it was called camo in the first place).
Yes, if the enemy uses thermal he will spot me, anyway.
But i still would love to have different camos for maps that are different... like Alpine and Veridian Bog, for instance.

So... how about it ?

I was thinking this the other day, my idea was slightly more along the lines of selecting five camo's, eg:
  • Snow
  • Desert
  • Urban
  • Jungle/forest
  • Default
And then dropping on a map roughly meeting that setting would put you in that camo. If you were limited in camo's/colours you could assign one or two to all, pretty much as how it currently works.

This would be on top of the current pricing model, which isn't great, but meh You'd think it would give PGI slightly better return in the Camo/Colour department.

Also I miss seeing the mechs all in a Lance in snow Camo in MW2:Mercs.....

Seem to do fine with bright NASCAR color scheme. All fades to gray at distance anyway. And the game puts a big square box around what you need to shoot.

I like the bright colors and flashy patterns to be encouraged, it is more interesting and gives every opponent a unique personality.
Everyone running blend in camo is very dull.

But I do still agree in some ways.
It could be a good way to add value to the overpriced full unlock of a camo (ie not oneshot).
If you are wearing an unlocked camo the you are able to reconfigure the three colors or load a preset during the lobby. That way people get their map specific camo, camo unlock has some added value for its 1000MC crazy price, PGI have a chance to sell more MC to justify the effort of adding the menu in lobby.

They could also do the snow-desert-jungle-etc patterns idea.
Don't design new skins, just use one of the existing camos. All it needs to do is have a fixed color preset for each map.
Mechs with no skins developed yet can still have it, just apply the colors to the default skin.
