I'm gonna throw out a few thoughts here.

King Crab has approximately the same free ton space as the direwolf if you add on endosteel. By weight, the ferrous armor takes up less than the standard armor on the direwolf, and so provides more armor pound for pound. It's height profile is lower than the dire or even the warhawk, PLUS all of its torso weapons are mounted at the very top, which allows it to snipe by hill humping, which is what direwolf and warhawk cannot do. Plus, you can modify the king crab regarding its engine size, and I'm not 100% sure about this, but I believe it also has more crit space available.
NOT to mention that king crab gets quirks, unlike the direwolf!! And its ridiculous torso turn rate, which let will let it track and fire upon any mech that tries to run by it.

-> Bottom line, King Crab is a superior mech to the direwolf on multiple points, and is therefore hands down not only the best assault mech in the game, but also the best mech in the game across all weight classes.

Gargoyle, on the other hand, takes up an assault mech spot. It runs as fast as many of the clan medium and heavy mechs. However, it has approximately 5 less free ton space compared to the timberwolf and the same amount of free ton space as the hellbringer or summoner. Unlike these aforementioned mechs, however, it has the profile of an atlas, and it doesn't have jumpjets. It's armor also puts it right between the timberwolf and the warhawk.

-> Bottom line, gargoyle is inferior to the timberwolf or hellbringer. It can't bring the same maneuverability by JJ, firepower, or ecm of those mechs, and yet it occupies the higher weight assault class spot that could go to a warhawk or direwolf. It's got the size of an atlas but much less armor.

I'd discuss more ,but I have to eat.

Dire wolf close to max armor, empty: 50.34 free tons, 40 slots.

King Crab close to max armor, std 300 and endo: 51 tons, 37 slot.

What this means in practice is that you couldn't be more wrong. Clan weapons and equip are lighter and smaller so they make much more efficient use of what is available. Note that this perk of upgrading the engine degrades the available tonnage by quite a bit. You could run a 350, but that would set you back over 11 tons just for that alone.

The Dire Wolf will remain the premiere weapons platform in raw power. Nothing can field the amount of firepower the Dire can.

e: Also saying that ferro is better than regular pound-for-pound is not showcasing anything considering we have max armor values and switching the ferro out for the endo is actually an upgrade, meaning most people will switch out the ferro for endo the moment they get it.

Not seeing how the King Crab is superior. It cant use clan weapons or clan XL. And if you have to take endo steel to get equivalent tonnage thats 14 crit slots you cant use compared to the Daishi.

KGC-000 has 50.8 tons free with full standard armor, endo-steel structure, and a standard 300.
DWF-PRIME has 50.3 tons free with full armor, five additional heat sinks, and a Clan XL 300.

As a clanner, a WOLF clanner, the KGC is not better than the DWF. It's arguably on par with it, but I wouldn't say it beats it. Sorry.

I haven't played the crab yet but when I opened it in the mechlab that was the first thing I did.... ;) I made the mistake of trying the Gargle first.

Clan XL 300: engine 15.5 tons 4 more crit slots, can't die to ST destruction
STD 300 engine: 25 tons
STD 300 engine with Endo steel: 20 tons and 14 more crit slots

"More space" and "Equal tonnage" my аss.

1) king crab has 14 less crit slots which means 4-5 less DHS compared to the dire wolf. king crab wont be able to dissipate heat nearly as well as a dire wolf.

2) youre not accounting for clan weapons weighing much less... which is easily giving the dire wolf at least another 5-10 tons.

the king crab doesnt even come close to the dire wolf in firepower. although the torso twist speed of the king crab does give it a survivability advantage over the dire wolf. durability is the king crabs main advantage IMO.

I'm running mine with 4 UAC5's. Seems to do better than the two AC20's. I've tried 6 AC2's, but the ghost heat is way to much. PGI has killed the AC2's with the darn ghost heat.
