I'm not in a unit myself, and you don't need to be. I've been in about 6 matches so far, and they are fun. If you clicked on one of those pop-up announcements, people should already be there looking for more (from my limited understanding). Stick with the lobby search. Eventually, you should get into a match. I found it tends to take me about 10 minutes myself.
The empty looking team roster is a big from my understanding. It should be filling up with people as it goes, but instead right now it remains black until it has found a complete team. Stick with it. You'll get into a match. (Try Apollo... it has been a busy place so far)

This game need lobbies! A lobby system would fix CW as you could then see how close you were to launching a match. You could also play multiple times with your group, and it would be a cake walk to get them on coms and play as a team. This random match maker BS has got to go. The matchmaker never worked well for this game, and it is even worse when trying to use it in CW.
CW is using lobbies. There is a big with it though right now. Read above statement to previously quoted person.
I'd also like to remind people, CW is in beta and was released not even a full day ago. Bugs and problems are too be expected. If you are willing to wait to get into a match, it is a lot of fun.
I'd like to make amention that CW is going to change the way you pay your mechs. May even change how you equip your mechs too. It really is interesting to play. I hope you all are able to get a few matches in. Be patient.

Yes. You will only be able to use clan mechs in CW if you are a clan faction. Confirm the attack or defend action (after you check and create your drop deck). A timer should show up that says looking for group. It may (will) take a while. Sit there and wait for a group to be formed.
You don't need a unit to join. You don't need any team speak to play.
Clicking on one of the pop-ups should bring you to a world that needs help, and thus should have shorter wait times. Be patient. There seems to be a long wait time right now. My experience has it around a 10 minute wait.
If you need further advice or instruction, just ask. I'll be on tomorrow (or much later today depending, about 11 hours from now) to help If I can.

I wish you luck. Be patient though. It does take a while. I tend to alt+tab to the forums here while I wait, or read a web comic. I just alt+tab between windows often while I wait.
All I can say is I believe it is worth the wait, as these matches are fun (for me at least). Good luck.

Sometimes that happens. So I'll ask you the same question I'll ask the person I'm quoting below.

What planets are you trying to attack/defend?
Apollo was being a fairly hot spot last night. Actually, any IS world on the clan border was seeming to be rather active. There are also little pop-up windows that show up on the bottom right hand side. I think that tells you where people are waiting.
Beyond that, I can't say. I've been having wait times last night of 10-15 minutes before I got into a match. I'm hoping PGI finds a way to expedite this searching progress.

Spending time in the lobby and not ever dropping is a very real probability. Not only do you need 12 players on your side,
While I want to play in CW matches I have no desire to help defend a Kurita world from the Clan invasion.

Took 8 drops but finally got into a multiple faction group. Used

Spending time in the lobby and not ever dropping is a very real probability. Not only do you need 12 players on your side, they have to all be in your faction. As a Davion player I see "Turtle Bay" needs defenders all the time.
While I want to play in CW matches I have no desire to help defend a Kurita world from the Clan invasion. Make sure you pick a world that your faction is likely to be interested in.
Defenders (particularly against clan forces) do not have to be all of the same faction. You could always help defend Apollo then, which is a Steiner world. Part of the glorious (for now) Fedcom...

I have. Attackers are typically of the same faction from what I have observed, and my IS vs IS conflicts have been pure one faction vs another pure faction team. I'm not sure if this was typical, or if it just so happened to be.

...as if that was not bad enough, say one of our guys drops out, right before it confirms the match, then again, no match more waiting... and we can't even tell it's all happening. Those slots for attack and defend in the lobby must fill up dynamically so that people understand they need to get more people to fill up thier 12 people and so that the people who are coming in as solos can see they are NOT IN AN EMPTY LOBBY. Otherwise they will keep wandering around a wasteland looking for a game that has someone in it...also we will keep having 12 mans on like the defend side... defending against NO ONE, cause the attackers give up right after or as the game decides it has a match.
This needs fixing.

You present a very good point. I believe that the game lobby is suppose to work as you describe, and that would be a huge help. Just being able to see that other people are there as well would be helpful. And it is probably all the people who quit the search that make the timers so delayed.
This is the part where I agree with you, and then mention that it's "in Beta" and that "there are known problems and they are working on it". I kinda wish they could work on it more faster, and/or that they wouldn't have a challenge event happen till more of the bugs in the beta system was cleared up... but it is what it is. Maybe they were hoping that by having the challenge event going involving the CW system, that they could get better testing numbers to find more problems to fix? Or that it might drum up interest and have less wait times as more people join in?

First, colors don't work on the forums from my knowledge.
Second, it is "doesn't work", or "Does not work". Not "do not".
Third, it is in Beta still. The wait times are long because people are not staying in the lobby and waiting for a match before they cancel he search.
Fourth, look at this thread for more information: http://mwomercs.com/...-the-que-on-cw/
Fifth, it's Maple Syrup. Not Maple Juice... (Or it's also called Maple Sap, before it is turned into a syrup.)
(And yes, I'm trying to be a little funny here.)

I know we are bascially alpha testing it and should be thankful its here.. I get that..
BUt maybe a few hot patch fixes to make this work. Yesterday our team of 8 got in one match and then after 2 hours of screwing around went to pugging. I am on a hour of waiting around..
MAYBE its our unit we sided with FRR. But we have no choice but to stay with them as we dont have the money to swap out as we stuck with a 28 day contract. Can you at least reset the contracts..?

Update: After 25 mins I gave up. Now I'm in a group with 4 other people trying to defend Turtle Bay, wait time closing in on 10 mins.
Update 2: After another 20 minute wait our group slimmed down to 4 total. Now we're trying an attack instead of a defense.
