I like the idea of allowing players to download the client, but not provide access codes until the day of launch.
That should reduce the server load, quineg?

Now that's the best idea I've heard yet.

Here is a idea....
a percentage of the servers used as download only for the first couple of months?
the rest used for gaming?
oh and then there comes the UPDATES/PATCH... >.<
that is when it is all in one .... inclusive.... LOL
Just a thought...
No matter what there will be lag and major issues with the first few days of massive downloads. Might as well get ready for it.

Joke's on us.

When we try to download on the 7th we'll all get yellow "Pending" buttons.

Exactly, its probably best to just assume this will be the case.

Earth and Beyond's servers were... "beyond" capacity.

Star Wars Galaxies servers went up in flames like Alderaan.

City of Heroes couldn't save their beloved servers from the diabolical comic book nerds invasion.

World of Warcraft's servers went down harder than Deathwing. And similarly, it only dropped caster junk.

SWTOR's servers fell faster than their own subscription base. (Too soon?)

Diablo 3's servers only stayed up in 10 minute intervals before going back down. Though the good news was, most people were able to beat the game in that window of time.

Hopefully since the second phase closed beta is allowing only founders in, they'll have an idea of how many will be looking to dogpile the servers from their sales numbers and plan accordingly.

Hoping against hope, people will be a little reasonable here. Whatever it is, it is still a beta, and any sense of entitlement is a little silly.

I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but I don't expect the servers to be melting. Here's why:

Remember how the devs stated that founder access will be pushed back a bit due to shipping delays involving the server hardware? There's a reason they're waiting for all that hardware to be present and installed, because they want to open founder access with full production hardware up and running.

That means, we're going to be hopping on a system designed to bear the load of the founders AND all the free-to-play people they are expecting for open beta. However, the free-to-play people aren't going to be allowed on until a while later, which means that us founders will have more than enough server resources to play with.

Now, since we're going to be the first testers of the production hardware, I suppose we can expect hiccups, desyncs and what have you... but overloaded servers? Hardly.

I was just about to say the same, best idea to ease the server load on launch date, plus it's very simple to do for the devs.
Hope they'll go this way.

So you're a "My heat gauge is half empty!" kinda guy? (Which ironically is the positive version of the phrase, in the Mechwarrior universe.)

I'm a half full unfortunately :)
Willing to bet'cha pink slips on my first mech the server will go up in a thermo-nuclear fire.

Yeah I am fairly sure the servers will be melting, clearly they should have used double heatsinks on them.

A thought occurred to me, though...

So if EVE's server is powered by space hamsters, what are MWO's servers powered by? Swarms of tiny UrbanMechs running on treadmills? :)

Reading the forums and listening to all the comments, rants and occasional whining I just realized I am in for some epic gaming come Aug 7. Think about playing f2p with only serious mechwarrior fiends. Can't wait.

august 7th is founders only. the free to play horde does not get in on the 7th. they can limit and bleed out how many free accounts can be made and log in to stem the tide if they have too.

Yes. With atlas' standing behind them firing flamers at them anytime they begin to slow down.

well paying founders get in on aug 7th if plans stay on schedule, which will still be open beta, so non paying people will only get in if they get invited to open beta after that until the servers open for free to players.

if they cant handle founders day on the 7th, i say we burn Paul in effigy, not a Paul dopple or doll, actual Paul.....
