They are to give people a reason to play for those factions. Better rewards to draw more people into the trap.
the question is will this only affect the planets belonging to those factions, like: defending Liao, and attack liao taregts, or do you have to be pledged? otherwise this helps not really that much because people probably are bound to houses by contract not even able to switch to the buffed factions.
I still vote for a dynamic system:
planetary reward is 500c-bills x amount fo planets a faction owns.
loyalitypoints is 5 for every 50 planets they own.
This will dynamically change things and create more balance on the map soon.
further more balance dropships by allowing every faction wiht less than 5 planets to have + 10t while every other faction should have 240t -5tons per 50 planets.
what will this change? the bigger a faction gets, the more are their planets worth to be attacked, and so people will morelikely go and attack a stronger factions planets. I really doubt that we will people switching factions all the tiem to the one having the bigger rewards. But if you give ALL factions a motivation to fight a specific faction or to avoid a low rewarding faction, then this will create more balance.
still a few people willing to change factions may now go to the liaous, because they border steiner and Davion, which means the bounty Liao gets on these planets will be big.
