Ability for anyone to say to all "my faction" that "Hey we are in queue for CW, there's 2 spots open when attacking Brocchi's Cluster!" so that people would know would be kinda swell. Put on a timer to prevent spam and allow people to disable it of course.

Edit: Of course I'm talking this also shows up at Home screen no just IN game.

I think they talked about it on the last town hall, that they were concerned with flooding and message content.

I think it would probably make sense to have a faction chat tbh, but its an area they are looking at, and is unlikely to be a slap on open faction chat tab to go along with unit and group chat going by the last interview.

Just make sure you limit the speed of the chat to 1 line every 10 seconds.

Other games have had global chats in the past, and you had the ability to check or un-check what you wanted to see. This would be a HUGE benefit for CW in coordinating factions to get in the game. I mainly play solo, I have a few on my friends list, nothing spectacular but that's because I'm not on a lot or at odd times. I'd love to jump on and see a message that we are defending or attacking somewhere.

Even the global chat in Town Hall meetings is just ridiculously overcrowded. Basically 3 new messages posted every damn second. It serves no purpose, there's no way to have a conversation with people. There's 20 conversations going on simultaneously, it's just a mess.

And then PGI would have to spend money on moderators 24/7.

Not worth it, at all. So many other things PGI could spend money on. Like writing some background for every planet on the galaxy map, and write new ISN news reports about which planets are won and lost. And then make those ISN news report a part of UI 3.0.

All the "overcrowded" chat arguments would make sense to me.......if I wasn't waiting 30 mins to get to a fight.

Overcrowded and spam as not reasons for a global/faction chat is dumb because you just need an ignore function like every chat in existance. MWO still is the only online game ive ever played without chat or voice comms intergrated.

So your'e saying making up a story about all those hundreds of planets should take priority over gameplay and user friendly enhacements? Dafuq?

I am sure they'll add chat box oh 2018 give or take a year or two. Seriously at the rate PGI goes at doing stuff they barely do critical things let alone anything not "necessary".

it doesn't have to be truly global. there can be cloned rooms with a reasonable max, and let people move from room to room. there just needs to be a way to say HEY I want to join up for some damn games. FFS.

It's a tricky situation.

Honestly PGI needs to ditch it's whole "worrying about what people are saying in chat" mentality, unless there is bodily harm mentioned, or threats of sexual violence.

Outside of that, chat should be left open, and looked at on a case by case basis.

a game like this requires an OPEN chat, so that people can co-ordinate. PGI needs to remember that "Online Interactions are not rated by the ESRB." also, meaning that the interactions made online could be AO for all the raitings systems care, but they don't have any control over what players do/say.

So yes, I am all for global chat channels and faction wide channels. This NEEDS to happen to co-ordinate defenses/attacks. But we, as players, also need to know, that the chat channel COULD end up a crapfest... and then and ONLY then, should moderation be enforced in any way.

Global chat would also allow for like minded players to form persistent groups. (some post game functional chat would even help)

Persistent groups are certainly more prone to unit cohesion and teamwork that will result in more "mission accomplished" and less "you guys suck, i quit" in pug matches.

Success in the mission would reduce the complaints of " too OP" or "too imbalanced".

Every other game I play has some form of chat; pre and post match. This allows us to say "Hey, that dude was good, lets invite him to our squad" or, "that squad was good, lets add them to our group."

Really, whatever the excuse for no chat is absurd since weve had functional chat in many, many games for more than a decade.

Make it so, and the community will grow.

Might be nice to have one in mechbay or a Faction 'pre-lobby' to coordinate Units instead of running between 3 different TS addresses.

Never had an issue in WoTs and wow I could actually ask questions and get real answers and opinions, in real time no less.

Same goes with EVE Online, I could view area chat, faction chat, recruitment chat, whatever I generally needed and actually communicate with the community.

The lack of a chat room is a huge issue in my opinion, always has been.

Honestly the only thing i can see it being used for is recruiting in game, at which point most people would turn it off.

+1 on the global chat. It would also be nice to have the ability to drill down into faction chats, as well as a general LFG chat.

something like
Global>LFG Global
Global>faction>LFG faction
