How about NO ballistics quirks on Warhammers so we stop seeing them being used as Roid Raging Jagermechs?

I've always said quirks should only support the stock loadouts of the mech in both weapon type and quantity. Doesn't mean you can't squeeze an AC20 in there, and doesn't mean you still can't do well with it, but everyone agrees the stock loadouts are the worst in MWO so they are the ones that need the quirks. :)

You know it's funny, I've started to come around to the sized and typed hard points for Battlemechs... it's taken me a while, but once I really sat down and thought about it, it makes zero sense that one can squeeze a Gauss Rifle or AC/20 into the same mounting points as a .50cal - 20mm MG would be mounted in...

Harder than making up 90-ton ECM variants apparently.

Yeah, I have a decent idea about sized hardpoints but whenever I quote it, I have to go hide under a rock for a few days. Figured my stance on quirks was enough for now. :P

Simple solution would be each weapon gets a size rating, and each location gets a hardpoint rating, and applying the weapon subtracts that number.

At the moment, each weapon has a rating of '1'.

This would let say, Small Lasers, MG's, Flamers to be a '1', but an AC20 would be a '4'.

So in a mech with an AC20 stock, it'd get 'Ballistic 4' in that location - meaning it could take 1AC20, or 4MG's there.

problem is what about mechs with MGs? They need multiple to be useful?

Man, you won't believe it, but I dreamed something like that last night too!
It was a Project Phoenix II, with Wasp, Chameleon, Crusader and Longbow.

Sure, that doesn't count much 'cause I dream with mechs all the time... :/

Still though, two people dreaming about Wasp release the same night?

I bet both our subconscious minds were switched to whatever cosmic frequency Russ's and Paul's mighty brains broadcast on. I give about 82% odds on Wasp announcement during May.

I hope you were right about Chameleon. I'd love to see that.

Yeah.
The options there would be 'inflation' - (I.e., things that have a usual '1' 1 sized Hardpoint, gets 2), or certain things get +1, +2, whatever, based on the placement / size of it, similar to what we have now.

You could even vary it up / down - maybe an AC20 is a 6, or a 5?
AC2? maybe it's a 2, maybe it's a 3? AC5 is a 3?
Infact, logically, it may go MG 1, AC2 2, AC5 3, AC10 4, AC20 5
or even MG 1, AC2 2, AC5 4, AC10 5, AC20 6.

But it's the easiest / most streamlined and logical way I could think of to size hardpoints.
Rather than things being Small / Medium / Large, then figuring out if just each size can go in each, or if a Large can then have a Medium or Small instead - but then maybe a Large can have 2 medium, 3 small? or 2 medium / 4 small? or a mix of medium and small?

This says how much that component is physically capable of supporting, and then the weapons say how large / strenuous on the mount it is.

Next 40 tonner?. Slim profile, high speed and JJs leave me pretty equally satisfied with Assassin or Vulcan. I think ASN probably more effective, VL-2T more interesting, especially visually.

I'll let you know next time I'm up. Just wish the old Comic Grapevine was still around

Great spot, Comic Grapevine. #neverforget

used to spend most of my money from working at Papa's Pizza in Galt at that shop (well, a hefty bit went to SF2Championship Ed, too). All the awesome used RPG books, back issues of Battletechnology...... *sigh*

Probably a good thing then the Cyclops DOESN'T have the Archer's Torso, or Warhammer/Rifleman's legs, then.

Knees are kind of similar in style, and the only way the Cyc and Arc share torsos is if every mech with a jutting CT and Missiles in the STs are apparently knockoffs of the Archer.

The distinction is greater between the Cyc and Arc than between the Arc and MDD, and that's only really "same" in thematic style. If anything, the closest resemblance is that the legs of the Cyc are similar to a beefed up version of the GRFs.

Are there similarities? Sure. There are and always have been thematic similarities between ALL of Alex's work. That's called an aesthetic, and also what happens when ONE artist does all the work for an IP.

But to cry "Legomech" is much ado about nothing, and TBH, just flat out wrong.

(Just noting this because I forget where some yo yo was calling it lego mech ripoff of archer torso and warhammer legs, lol)

Absolutely agree. I'm just sick of the "copy paste" accusations almost as much as DoA threads.

FWIW (and I get that it's probably just not the same, but ...), are you aware of the new location on Cherokee?

Quoted for sad truth.

Very few stores seem to do much in the way of RPGs anymore. Pretty much comics and cards ruling the roost now.

I'm happy to say that I've got a couple of shops near by that specialize in TT games, and neither one is a Games Workshop, Sky haven and Everything Games.

Edit:

They even keep Battle Tech box sets on the shelf too

If it means you could still place a large laser in the place of 2 mediums but can not gauss up a machine gun... Hmmm.... Well ac2s are working better, might be worth saccing 10s where there isn't 2 ac5 sized slots( l8tr would ac5 be a size 2 and ac 10 be size3 so you'd need reinflation adjustment... Hmmm)
It is a question, lot of troll builds would cease though.
