That said, I always did enjoy using the Charger in TT by, you know, charging at every opportunity and then kicking the ******** once I was in close. Small lasers? Bah! They're just there for decoration!

It does right? I suspect Alex Iglesias already did the concept art (considering the Charger was in the same poll that gave us later the Zeus and Cyclops).
The Charger is simply one of those "must haves" mech in MWO. The (many) variants are deliciously different from each other.
(I know the Hatamoto with that robot-samurai thing is more popular, but in MWO it would be an inferior mech in every way)

Hatamoto Chi? Sorry son, this is Battletech not Gundam.

Seriously, the only thing why I have difficulty taking the Charger seriously is that teeny-tiny popgun pistol. If it's that small, you don't want to go waving it around in public.
Move that fifth SL to torso, and I agree it's a cool 'mech. I'd also like this one MWO though I generally hate assaults.

Note I said "Macross", not Macross 7, Macross II, Macross Plus, Macross Frontier, Macross Zero. I consider anything after the original as bald cash grabs. Gundams are just silly from beginning to end. (with exception of one series...can't recall which... The 08th MS Team? Which was a pretty decent basic war story...but the robots were still pretty stupid)
But given a choice, I'd take Votoms, over either.

Why not Dougram?
(Totally not because that's where the Scorpion is from. HONEST)

I like most of the Dougram designs (although aside from the Dougram/Shadowhawk I think in many ways Btech improved on them (in some depictions)...as the art was mediocre), but never really got into the story. Votoms tells a great war story, as a whole.
I mean I could go on a long list of "Good/Bad" Anime....
(Good: Macross, Mospeada, Venus Wars, Patlabor, New Dominion Tank Police, VOTOMs, Appleseed, Spaceship Yamato, Akira, Guyver, Wings of Honneamise, etc. BAD:... Anything Dragon Ball, Evangelion, ALL Macross Sequels, most things revolving around teenagers, and "cute" animal mascots.....)
Anime is like Scotch... it's either great, or horrible, with very little in between

Macross Zero, Plus and Frontier were all good, Seven and Macross II were bad, I've not seen Delta yet so no option on it yet...

I'd say the concept of the Charger was always viable. I don't mean the scouting role in particular, just the general idea: It is a Mech with the movement profile of a lighter Mech at the expense of armour and armament. There is nothing inherently wrong with an 80ton cavalry Mech. The Charger just took it to an extreme - without having the technology to do so. 3025 was not a good time for the concept, and it was an extremely bad time for the Charger.
As soon as we got Star League-Tech things got better and the concept matured. Instead of scouting they focussed on quick response and skirmishing. The later CGR-3K or the Spartan are very interesting designs. Of course, one can debate how useful exactly they are on TT, but they are credible Mechs.
Since we are not stuck with 3025-Tech in MWO, there is nothing wrong with us upgrading the CGR-1A1 to make it combat ready.
And I can totally see myself doing that. I'd prefer the lighter Ostroc, but I would buy the Charger too.
