Why does each weight slot "NEED" to be filled? We've got 4 categories (Light, Medium, Heavy, and Assault). Is a 95 ton mech gonna perform THAT much differently from a 90 or 100 ton one? It's been mentioned that we already have 3 50 ton mechs and I am just fine with that. More if you consider the variants. If and when (proof either way) they implement weighted drops, I'd rather have the choice of a couple different 80 ton mechs anyways..... Just my thoughts. Think we are focused too much on filling each weight slot than looking at the important things.....

Because 80-tonners suck.

The awesome wouldn't be so bad if the torso had been tapered on the sides maybe 10 degrees, that would cut about a foot off the bottom at the waist on each side making it slightly harder to hit but still retaining the brick wall look.

So, I'm curious as to why (as of 01/26/13) the Victor is still crossed-off in the first post; I thought I had made a pretty good case for its (potential, eventual) inclusion that seemed to have been met with general agreement... ;)

though you´re right with the torso, the awesome isn´t that bad actually.
you need to move your torso when being shot at.... nice: awesome has a quite fast torso twist

even the 8Q variant is doing well with DS and it´s 3 PPC´s, you´re just not in the position to brawl, but other than that.....you´re really a damage dealer against everything from medium to assault

You did!
I need to update the OP.
(but I think the Victor lost all chances when the Highlander got in)

It's weird, despite it being illogical, something is telling me that the next Mech announced is going to be the Dervish.

I know the smart bet is the Banshee, but I'm just feeling the Dervish for some reason.

It will be an assault. They won't start another round of IS mechs until after the Clans.

there are only two 95 ton Assaults that would be around in 3050 and that is the Banshee which is light on weapons but comes standard with a standard 380 engine so it would be able to be upgraded to a 400 :) The 380 gives it a speed of over 64 kph so that would make it the fastest Assault in the game at that point.

And the second mech is the 95 ton Nightstar.it is however a lot more heavier on weapons :ph34r:

What aren't you saying Odanan? We've only been speculating this stuff.

(not because I have inside info - I wish! - but because these announcements and events are not random, they are part of a big plan: once you start thinking like the devs, you can predict a lot of things)

Why there won't be another round of IS mechs before the Clans?

1- Most roles are taken in the weight classes. Adding more IS mechs now won't improve much the game;
2- We are increasing short on interesting IS mechs for the game (well, except for the Assault class);
3- Do you really think they will lose the opportunity to promote the Clan Invasion? If they don't show us the art of these "mysterious" alien mechs now in March, when they will do it?

We know Alex Iglesias is ahead the announcement schedule. I think he has a handful of Clan mechs already done.

And the second mech is the 95 ton Nightstar.it is however a lot more heavier on weapons ;)

Actually, the Nightstar was introduced during the end of the Star League era, and was completely lost to the Succession Wars.
"The 'Mech itself was only produced until the first year of the First Succession War, 2786, when both of the factories and engineers capable of producing the Nightstar were destroyed or killed - the Norse-Storm factory was savaged in a Marik raid, while the General Motors engineers on Kathil died in a freak accident."

The Nightstar didn't see production again until 3057 (with the introduction of the FedCom variant and the reintroduction of the original -9J variant).
Additionally, the Nightstar doesn't get three distinct variants (needed for MWO's XP progression) until 3065 (and the third variant requires tech that isn't available until around (or after) the time that the -9J and -9FC variants start production).

So, not only is the Nightstar not available for another seven (in-universe) years, but it will be fifteen (in-universe) years before it can fit into MWO's gameplay system.

The Nightstar carries x2 Gauss and 1 ERPPC, a dangerous sniper. I don't think MWO is going to see the Nightstar at all, takes only 2-3 shots to down most mechs.

Yet you can make a Cataphract with that same build...

May as well bring in the Thunderhawk or the Pillager if you are going on that track..

Ah yes, the Nightstar. Another one of those multi-Gauss plus PPC assaults created to give the FIS something against the Clans. Like Thunderhawk, Devastator, Fafnir... booring...

They should put in more mediums, like Wraith or Wolf Trap.

Except the Nightstar is a 95 ton Assault mech, with full armor, and backup weapons(x2 M.Pulse, S.Las) if 7 tons of Gauss rounds isn't enough.
