Much like Ens, I'll have to vote for the Zeus.

Why did noone mention Shogun?

A good missile boat with 3 functioning variants, arm mounted missile hardpoints and JJs.

As much as we are sure the spot won't go to that mech, it should still be mentioned to be fair.

As much as I like the Shogun and agree it deserves a mention it has a number of things against it when considering it for MWO.

First, the Stalker is already filling the 85 ton slot. Secondly, the 3 Inner Sphere tech based variants are all almost the exact same 'Mech. Third, with the exception of Wolf's Dragoons, the Shogun was extinct by the end of the 4th Succession War and the Dragoons never began production anew in any of their factories.

It's a great 'Mech but it's one that died with the Dragoons. Still I would not mind seeing concept art for the heck of it.

Jenner and Highlander.

For one, we already have 2 35 ton mechs, 3 50 ton mechs, so the weight is not exactly an issue.

Second, the "same mech" argument is invalid, since we already have mechs that also suffer from that, like Jenner.

Lastly, the Highlander is still an extremely rare mech, possibly more-so than the Shogun and yet has made an appearence in the game.

Rare can't be an exclusion criteria for MWO the most common mechs are the unseen which we can't have, so the rare ones will have to fill the void.

Highlander is not that rare, just uncommon. Look at the Faction Assignment Tables - it is nonexistent in Davion, Marik and Rasalhague, but you can find it in Steiner, Liao and St. Ives (and a very few in Kurita). Look at the pages 23, 24, 25, 29 and in the pages 59, 60, 64 and 65.
You are a Capelan, you must have spotted some.

Shogun, in the other hand, is nonexistent in the Houses.

Yep, but that also points out another thing.

Raven 3L is a Capellan exclusive. Yet it is in the game.

Thus the arument falls a bit apart. Besides, why couldn't mercs have bonuses towards some mechs themselves?

I don't believe faction availability is a determining factor, nor is age of a 'mech. I do feel that they greatly decrease the chance of showing up, but I think overall popularity of a 'mech has something to do with it to...which would explain both the Raven and the Highlander.

Most players wouldn't even know what a Shogun is, compared to most other mechs. Even so, I don't think it's out of the running but I personally feel it's got a bad chance at it. Who knows, could be wrong!

My vote still goes primarily to the Cyclops, with the Hatamoto-Chi in second. I'm holding out an odd hope that when 'mech #20 finally does hit...we'll actually get more then just #20 with how long it's been.

Despite the loud cries of a few ... the majority has voted King Crab. My guess is that the devs are rushing the King Crab development which causes the delay. It is as simple as that  :(

That would be interesting. But not the Shogun - if you want a Wolf Dragoons mech, aim high: Annihilation!

A king crab would be nice. Theres not many other mechs that would feel comfortable going toe toe with one.

Yes and no... while it may be Jihad era, all three variants state manufacture dates well prior of 3050.

About faction availability: "all mechs will be available to any faction. Their price is the only thing that will vary based on which unit you choose or your popularity with that faction if you're in a merc unit.". -PGI

And the only factory ever producing it was destroyed in the first Succession Wars.

The Blakists are the only ones who might hope to have a few of them left around.

Rarity doesn't seem to be an issue for PGI. We have the TBT-3C, a variant almost non-existent by 3050. We are also getting a highlander variant which is quite rare. These are much rarer than say, the Raven-3L, which might be a specialty of a great house, but through salvage, etc others can acquire it. It is a greater stretch to imagine how a mech exclusive to a single merc unit could be so widely used.

Still, as I've said PGI rarely quibble over details like rarity. Look at the recent name dropping of the hoplite for example. Another mech exclusive to the Dragoons. I still kind of hope for a Banshee, but a rare assault is quite possible.

Rarity isn't an issue, because every single mech that is not unseen is a rare mech.

Rampage who?
There are great, iconic and extremely common mechs to the chosen before we go to these unknown mechs. Banshee, Zeus, Victor, Cyclops and Hatamoto should all have their chances.

And again, the Highlander is not that rare. Of course, it made it to MWO because the many "Highlander burial" fans - and the prospect of the hero mech Heavy Metal. I would choose as jumping assault the Victor instead, and as 90 tons mech the Cyclops. And sure, I would remove the ECM from the Atlas D-DC and give it to the Cyclops.

PS: in the advent of the #5 assault mech, I would pick the Banshee, filling all tonnages with common mechs.
