We should still get new mech concept art tomorrow!

I'm thinking the Zeus now...

I'd love to see how they'd spice up the Zeus. I've been very impressed with how they've taken some of the worse looking Inner Sphere mechs that I'd have never used in the table top game and change them just enough to make me say "Wow. I never thought I'd want to pilot a cicada until now."

The Cicada, the Stalker, the Spider, the Highlander, even the Cataphract are now beauties!

Zeus mech would look absolutely sickening, can't wait for the concept art.

Considering Victor is out (because of Highlander), I think there is a chance for the Zeus.

Although, the Mauler is a very good choice as it is the ballistic boat we need and then there's the King Crab, dual AC/20s.

I'd love me some Mauler, but I think that the Zeus would probably be better. Not to mention, I'd love to see what they do with the Zeus.

I was right about the concept art (Highlander)!

Odanan, you will need to update your list now, lol.
The next mech is going to be a medium, maybe Blackjack.

I hope it's not a Blackjack, we only have 1 urban map. right now. It would get torn apart with all the Gauss and Lrm Kittens. But that just what I think.

Hopefully, they'll wait with those 55 tonners (there are only 4 and all pretty crappy) and rather finally include a proper medium.

I don't care which one will be the next announced mech, but it would be nice to see some stuff in the 45, 55, 75 and 95 ton class. It's time to see mechs like Vindicator, Blackjack, Dervish, Kintaro, Orion, Black Knight, Banshee ...

Nothing against the good ol' unseens, but ... R.I.P.!

As far as the next assault I'm thinking Banshee. It fills the current 95 ton gap quite nicely. I do however believe that the next mech announcement won't be till all the current mechs are in. Of course I said that when people were speculating about mech 16 so what do I know?

Sorry, have got to say the Marauder (evertime) followed by the Rifleman.

The original mechs (from the boxed set) featured heavily in the literature and were even given clan weapons (but not clan tech armor, heatsinks, engines or internal structure) as second line for the clans.

What I remember about the Highlander was that as a Star League mech the technology to build it was lost (and therefore it is very rare) and the only (IS) unit using it was the Northwind Highlanders (themselves a former Star League regiment (I believe)).

I am brand new to this forum, but far from a Battletech newbie, sadly all of my vast library of Battletech official merc was taken from me.

Now where can I sign up for the Wolfs Dragoons? :(

My take on viable selections for 45-ton 'Mechs:

Blackjack
BJ-1
BJ-1DB
BJ-1DC
BJ-3

Vindicator
VND-1R
VND-1AA
VND-1SIC
VND-1X

Though, it should be noted that both the Blackjack and the Vindicator are a bit on the slow side (maximum speed of 64.8 kph for both), and both suffer from some lack in inter-variant diversity (the Vindicator more-so than the Blackjack).

The Hatchetman has enough variants, but is heavily dependent on melee combat and physical attacks being fully implemented to fulfill its purpose, the Phoenix Hawk is Unseen, the Wyvern has too few variants canonically in production prior to the Clan Invasion, and everything else is Clan-built or isn't (re)invented prior to the Clan Invasion.

Also:
55-ton picks: Dervish or Kintaro
75-ton pick: Orion... or Marauder?! (one can hope and dream... :()
95-ton pick: Banshee

Your thoughts?

The Marauder, Rifleman, Warhammer, Wolverine, etc. would be excellent mechs to add in the game. Common, iconic, with lots of useful variants... There is, however, a legal issue about them. Read in this thread more about this.

I don't think the devs care much for the tonnage and maybe they will skip some.

Comparing the Blackjack with the Vindicator, I think the Blackjack is more likely. It would be a mini-sniper when the Vindicator would be only another medium brawler.

55 tons? - No Dervish or Kintaro. I think they will wait 4 years for the Bushwacker.

75 tons? - Hoping for the Orion. Maybe the fact that it is an "Atlas Jr." is a good thing: people can buy it first to get used to the Atlas stile. Or it is a good entrance to the heavy class for all those Atlas players.

95 tons? - Well, the Banshee would be fine, except for the fact it has awful weapon loadouts for all the 64.8 km/h variants...

About the Marauder and the Reseen, I lost all hope.

With the doubling- and tripling-up, I also think that tonnage isn't a primary criterion... but I would think that the Devs are at least mindful of it.

Mediums:
I could see either the Blackjack (which, IMO, is as much a "JagerMech Jr." as the the Orion is an "Atlas Jr.") or the Vindicator ("mini CN9-AL"?) being used to fill the 45-ton slot as well as flesh out the lower end of the Medium-class weight range.

I don't see the Devs waiting three-to-four years to add the first 55-ton 'Mech - especially if they stick to the proposed 1-2 'Mechs per month plan; even if not announced until after the actual release (transition out of beta), I would expect the Dervish and/or Kintaro (more likely the former) to be announced (and/or implemented) before the Bushwacker (which won't have the needed three canon variants until 3056 - 6 to 7 years off).

Heavies:
As previously discussed, the Orion is pretty-much the only currently-viable choice among the 75-tonners (unless the Unseen - and, thus, the Marauder - are included).

Barring that, I wouldn't mind seeing any of the Grasshopper, Guillotine, Lancelot, or Quickdraw - all of which, while not likely to be most players' initial "top picks", are nonetheless viable by virtue of meeting the known criteria.

Assaults:
The Banshee isn't so bad... though, like the Hatchetman, several of its variants are very heavily dependent on the yet-to-be-fully-implemented melee combat and physical attacks; 'tis a literal brawler rather than just another "close-quarters combat specialist".
It is also effectively the only 95-tonner that is canonically in-production in the IS until the 3053 introduction of the Albatross (which won't have three canon variants until well-into the J***d) and the Colossus (a Solaris 'Mech that gets its third canon variant in 3067).

Though, I would imagine that more common and popular Assaults in other weight brackets - such as the Cyclops, Charger, Hatamoto-Chi, and/or Victor - would be more likely to be announced/implemented before the Banshee (or any other IS-built 95-tonner).

Your thoughts?

Blackjack is just a mini Jagermech.

Vindicator is more interesting. And it's hardly a brawler with a PPC and LRM, which leaves him only with 2 lasers in a close fight. ;)

And the Trebuchet is a mini-Catapult. Maybe minis are good because they are a step for the bigger ones.

And you are right, the Vindicator is not a brawler. It's not a DPS, scout or support mech either. Because it can't do anything well.

LRM5? 64.8 km/h? If I was the Emperor I would execute the designers right away.

About the Blackjack, you are just upset because of how many you lost for the FedRats.
