This is not a problem of how many different chassis are in the assault weight class.
People don't play mediums because:
- mediums are hard to play well;
- some mediums chassis are simply not good;
- generally, mediums don't excel in anything;
- larger mechs present more customization options.
Adding more medium chassis won't help the number of mediums in-game.
You are right in that adding more will not necessarily mean more will use them but good chassis like the Shadow Hawk and Griffin did increase the amount of mediums that we see. By adding more mechs there is the chance that we will see one that excels in an area and will get players to use them more. That and PGI realizing that Ballistics are a tad OP and the go to weapon and do something about it and fix SRMs which may take a bit.

I read it and I like it but I suck with editing and missed everything that Strum mentioned, so hopefully he checks it out.

More assault Mechs,atm.
I'm totally fine with more Light and Mediums being added, and am OK with Heavies, though I feel no shortage on their part overall.

In all fairness, we do need the Banshee to fill in that 95-ton weight slot so that all possible weight selections are covered.
We could also use the Cyclops as a large EWAR platform, as a complement to the RVN-3L and a lighter & faster competitor to the AS7-D-DC (especially if the Raven and Cyclops get EWAR-specific role bonuses, in the style of the role bonuses for ships in EVE Online, while the Atlas doesn't... **hint, hint, nudge, nudge

After that, however... MORE MEDIUMS!

(Especially at the lighter end of the range - Assassins and Vindicators and Hermes IIs, oh my!

Clearly, you haven't looked at some of the Banshee variants.
The Banshee-3S was one of the best assaults for the 3025 era, though the other early versions have a frighteningly low number of hardpoints- one of which is in the head! It's overengined normally (save for the -3S), but either a downgrade or an XL gives you something worth working with in MWO terms...since that -3S packs a broad energy hardpoint config with a ballistic and missile hardpoint in the torso to mix it up.

yeah I know, 95 tonner. But the only Assault left atm I actually give a wet fart about would be the Cyclops, and only IF they make it useful in EWAR, with a Command Console, ECM, and a boatload of module slots. After all, otherwise it just becomes a mini Atlas.
But I do so want my Assassin, Vulcan and such. And Enforcers. Almost as much as I want an Urbanmech.

I actually agree - we don't really need 95 tonner, and I'd rather have (for now*) something different - like EWAR tuned Cyclops.
*Really, in the dawn of 3D-printing age I want Alex Iglesias to redesign every piece of 80s fugly plastic robot toys into viable combat machines, but it's a digression

properly set up, it would replace the VTR as my Assault of choice, even sans JJs.

I really need to do orthos on that so Kiriage could model it for printing. And finish of the KGC (hold up is on my part.... but this weekend it's back to work on it!)

- February: FIRESTARTER!!!!!!
- March: Cyclops (I know people want the Banshee, and it will come, but having the quintessential command mech for CW is better)
- April: Guillotine
- May: Vulcan
JUst my thoughts.
