well it is certainly more Gundamy

I was thinking the same thing - that, or an Armored Core (specifically, the Crest-designed models from the 1st through 3rd gen AC games (versus the more rounded Mirage designs), or the "Normals" from the 4th gen AC games). :)

Butane you forgot the Binary Laser Cannon in your list. For era 'Mechs that mounted it see MAD-4X.

I think we will have to agree to disagree here. I like the MWO version better. I find it more... imposing.

Agreed. ShortPainter is a great artist, far better than me. But his designs lose the "battletech" feel, and tend to be too slim and elegant. I think he should really focus more on Anime mechs (which of course the BLR originally was), but one thing I always enjoyed about even Loose's take, was that it was stockier and a little more rough looking. SP's take looks great, but (IMO) it just doesn't feel right, whereas I think Alex's take really captures the feel and intent,. not only of the BLR, but Battletech, in general.

(And I ain't a biased Alex fanboy....when he does a design I dislike, I say it. Hate the Treb, not impressed with the Kintaro, while I like the Locust, it's just a lightly modded version of his GUN from the 3145 TRO, etc, etc..... also in several cases, I think the modelers improved his designs, like th Orion where I hated the art, love the in game mech).

But then, it is all opinion, so *shrugs*

If distinct likeness was likely to be used, for not making the battlemaster look like a battle master, then why does the wolverine look like a wolverine( minus the hand bag) the giffin look like a griffin (minus the hand held PPC, and one heck of a waist corset) and the shadowhawk look like a shadowhawk (though a bit stretched)

All three look close enough to the orginals to be unlabelled and someone say ohh that's those things from the Japanese manga.

Where as the Battlemaster would be huh..what the hell is that, one of the made up ones ? and then we're down the slippery path of generic stompy robot game.

ugh.... sorry the Wolverine looks like generic brick mech offspring of the TBolt, not like a wolverine.

Oddly I like the Treb, though a bit flat, the Quickdraw is a great improvement on the tech manual artwork, though it would be hard to make the head look worse, and the locust is an improvement though the cockpit makes me feel like I'm in a dunebuggy roll cage, and legging wouldn't be a worry if it was closer to the original

It looks like Beaker in a wind tunnel, which is just how it should ;)

This.

I was expecting a mech with a "Killzone" helmet for a head and and the stature of the Crusader. Instead we got a hack job that my baby cousin could have out done with duplo blocks : /

I actually like the MWO Battlemaster (more the concept art than the game model, but even so...). It is more plausible (in military sense) and surely more likely with the other MWO mechs.

About the others:

- Raven: firstly, I was a little upset because it looked too different from the lovely original design but with time I start to love the MWO Raven and today I accept nothing different;
- Stalker: didn't like the reversed legs but the body itself is terrific and an absurd improvement over the awful original;
- Trebuchet: that's a mech I think the older arts are better (sorry Alex), though MWO really made it stand aside;
- Quickdraw: better than the original (couldn't be worst), but still an ugly mech. I wouldn't pilot this even if someone payed me for. IMHO, it was a mistake to add this mech to the game, specially how the variants were done.
- Orion: perfect;
- Atlas: perfect;
- Cataphract: perfect (was an ugly mech, now is sexy as hell);
- Jagermech: same as Cataphract;
- Kintaro: interesting design but with so many medium mechs to add they chose this? It should have more peculiarities of the original model tough;
- Flea: much better than the original, but the mech is too similar to the Locust (in art, loadout and role). I hope PGI delays its release until people forget its existence;
- Blackjack: acceptable;
- Firestarter: very good;
- Victor: perfect;
- Highlander: perfect;
- Battlemaster: very good;
- Griffin: perfect;
- Shadow Hawk: too generic looking;
- Commando: cute;
- Jenner: very good;
- Cicada: perfect;
- Centurion: nice, but too different from the original;
- Catapult: perfect (specially the K2);
- Dragon: nice;
- Thunderbolt: very good;
- Locust: nice but would prefer something more exotic, insect like;
- Spider: sexy mech but sized too small (not Alex's fault);
- Wolverine: good - and looks a lot like the original;
- Hunchback: very good.

Now just hoping for a gorgeous Banshee next month. :ph34r:

And the Clans, all perfect, except for the Summoner/Thor, which could look more like this.

FTFY

And yeah, the Summoner is far too squat in Alex's design, the canopy way too prominent and bubbly and the energy barrel looked out of place.

All I can really say is that I believe the Modelers screwed the pooch on the Centurion. The entire profile and silhouette was changed.

I was bloody livid back in the closed beta when it was introduced. Back then, before damage transfer when destroyed components removed the hitbox, the Centurion was complete and utter trash in both looks and performance. You lost your weapon arm within the first 5 seconds of a fight and didn't even get the benefit of leaving a pretty metal corpse.

Just in case anyone was wondering, the emblem and paintjob seem to indicate that the pictured FS9 is from the Canned Heat Mercenary Company. :(

I assembled the mech into the background to make a semi-official Concept Art.

The "Stitch" is a FS9-H belonging to Mechwarrior Hamish Jones, a recon pilot for Snord's Irregulars. Like most of the unit, Hamish has a fetish for ancient media and artifacts, and is something of a specialist in 20th century animation, particularly a devotee of one Walt Disney. The unusual paint job on his Firestarter came about as a suggestion from his daughter, Abby, who he shared his collection of cartoons with. After each mission, they would repaint the "Stitch" together, as Abby was convinced that by doing so it would ensure her daddy would return OK. Sadly, Abby and her mother were visiting relatives on Sudeten in late 3050, when Clan Jade Falcon arrived. It has been confirmed that both were killed during the invasion. Since then, Mechwarrior Jones has maintained the tradition, but instead of recon, has made it his mission to use his flamers to burn alive every single Clanner he meets. The cartoonish image of his Firestarter has been the last thing many Clan Warriors have seen before their agonizing deaths.

I was super stoked they made the Raven look so gorgeous when they initially announced it. The Raven was always my favorite light due to it actually being designed around a reconnaissance role. Alex's design made my jaw drop and I bought it the instant it was available. Still remember running the 2X with 4 ML and a SRM6 with the stock engine and taking out a Dragon. Those were good times.
