So here's a thought:

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tablet - and I'm wondering if there would be a way to get MWO to work with it.

I'm thinking something along the lines of a hud "application" which could be downloaded onto the tablet, and show me a radar display or systems info in real-time as the game progresses.

Yes, it may be a bit "out-there" and only a handful of people could/would use it - but I think it would be awesome to have a little display with all the info I want to see quickly in one little place, without cluttering up my actual monitor display.

It would also help me justify spending the money on the tablet in the first place, as it currently gathers a lot of dust ^^

Thoughts?

Edit: To be clear - this could be a cool alternative to the artemis for those of us with a tablet. Also, this is an idea for an additional feature not something I'd like to see take precedence over actually getting a working product

Nah, I have dual monitors, I will just use that if able. I would rather see support for dual monitors than for this but honestly more options the better and who says they cant do both.

It is a neat idea, I've thought about secondary displays myself. At this point I would not want to detract from what is being worked on. Ulitmately if the HUD is configurable on the game display (modular) it would be nice to be able to position data from it on additional displays connected to the PC or allow shared data to accessory app.
I would extend the poll to more than just tablets.

It would be awesome if the minimap we seen built into the Artemis (http://www.engadget....hwarrior-onlin/) could be designed as an application taht we could use on alternate devices, like tablets or phones or indeed dual-monitor displays.

Obviously Razer would have no such interest in that eating into their profits, but anyone with enough cash to spend on any controller for any single game is probably still going to buy it...but for the rest of us, why not?

For the Artemis to do this, they'll need to expose some interface for it to do it, or have it drive the panel in some way. If they release it, I suspect someone could craft something up quickly to do something similar.

I'm on my I pad right now and yes I can see this being very usefull especially if you can use it for command functions such a air support and artillery strikes as well as your natural radar. Also using the touch input to draw up battle plans of the fly would be amazing.

You have to be careful about what it could or couldn't do though. As a tool for replicating the information you can normally get in-game it's fine. If you can use it to perform functionality you couldn't easily with with K+M, then it's going to cause issues. It basically borders on automation/hax.

Feel better about the purchase since the lawsuit Apple just won yesterday against Samsung means they can't even sell the Galaxy (for now). You have a bone fide collectable now!

Lack of PC tablets might make this thread a non starter...

Would be cool to be able to use it to display the battlegrid and send orders and way points to your fellow lance mates that way. Just by touching a unit and then setting a series of way points and commands for them.

Well, I guess you could try to hack together something for tablets using the API the Artemis will use for its' display.
Hm.. I might have finally found a use for that horrible Ipad2 my dad bought!

It would be nicer to have a utility to let me setup any extra monitor as a dedicated display for different info (radar, damage, weapon groups, etc.). Then I could use one of these 7" monitors that I have sitting around for something useful. Maybe put two gauges on one display or whatever.

There's no incentive for them to allow your tablet to become an in game aid.....because then you wouldn't buy their concept controller.

Sorry :/

Love the idea.

I'd like to add something: it's great for commanders and possibly scouts, if they are not actively involved in some nasty fight. So they might have the time/luxury to process information from several displays. Meds and Heavies probably less so, but even then, if they had access to it (secondary display would suffice, although it's not mandatory), they could see the minimap and waypoints more clearly or maybe have another scaled, rotated or interactive minimap. I'm sure you would want to advoid that clutter on the main display, so it might help to keep things separated.

Just ideas, but I still like the general direction of the initial proposal. MW:O is riding on some hot technology and linking it somehow to our everyday mobile devices, which we are already familiar with, now that would be awesome. Maybe the secondary GPU output could be used to make it happen. I believe most systems have that today, so the basics could be covered well enough. Except the device/display of course. That would be a consideration for the user in question.

Another thought: how about recording games with such an external device (like ipad or whatever you like)? You might consider it a placeholder until a proper replay function can be implemented. Also it's easier to edit videos that way, since the record would already have the right format for video editing.

Cheers =)

Some really cool ideas coming out here, the idea of recording games or giving tactical commands from the device would be amazing - although I don't think it should allow extra gameplay functions not on mouse and keyboard. I do feel that with a game that's pushing for new and interesting new concepts, this could be a great tool to offer people.

I'm considering even things like how WoW does the mobile armory app and similar ideas.

This would be easily done if MWO devs released an API which can be used to pull the kind of info you would like to use on ancillery display. I would guess that is what Razor used for their concept controller. Will they release an API for general use, who knows.

No, I will not look down to see a map... maybe on one of my monitors its ok, but I will not hang a tablet to have the same effect.

My thinking was to have it as a little display just showing critical info that I wanted at a glance - for example the enemy mech info or my own damage display, maybe even as someone suggested for a couple of the gauges (heat / speed).

I have a TV that I can use as a second monitor, but it's big - I'd like the info in a small place that I can just glance at and move on.

I intend to buy a surface pro (the one with the i5) when it is released, and this would actually work really well with it, since it has a kickstand
