Please let's not joke about torture.

I apologize if I've offended your delicate sensibilities. I had originally understood we were in a game where we kill people, break things, and do our level best to eliminate entire cultures, all in the name of fun and profit.

These being the same forums where individuals get flamed to ash for merely INQUIRING to the masses regarding the viability of a FORMERLY UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED AND COMMUNITY ENFORCED set of rules that had the AUDACITY to be named . . . ohmigod . . . get ready, here comes that word again . . . 'HONOR'.

Now, pardon me while I go jump back in the bunker and put on my helmet in anticipation for the sh**storm that I'm sure shall now ensue.

God, I love this place. . . .

"Honor" isn't the same thing as "being a decent sort of fellow"

There is no greater honor than being a warrior for the Mittani.

Both are completely subjective anyway.

A friend of mine made a bet that once this game opens in the Greater China area (PRC, Taiwan, HK & Macau SAR), Liao would turn into the highest-populated faction. His reasoning is that most gamers out there love giant robot games (there have been three Korean ones before - very popular but mostly flopped through mismanagement) and are highly patriotic, while being mostly ignorant of the BT universe. In other words, there'd be literally millions of potential players who would have no idea of the Liao backstory but would be drawn to this faction simply because it's the Chinese faction. Is he on to something?

I actually disagree with him because I happen to know that most Chinese gamers prefer to play games where achievements translate directly into resources and trading is a major part of gameplay. Also, Namco Bandai recently opened the F2P Gundam Battle Operation MMO (think MW: LL with Mobile Suits), albeit for the PS3 only, so a lot of gamers have gravitated towards that game. I honestly don't think MWO will make it big across the pond thanks to the more familiar competition. What do you think?

What do I think? I think you are both guilty of generalizing based on little more than peripheral knowledge. Rather grievous, especially when you consider the size of the group you are trying to boil down to a single set of preferences.

Edit: Edited to change a "t" to "n" in "that".

Knowledge not really peripheral in my case. I used to work with a market research group based in Shanghai studying the habits of Chinese gamers in 18 major cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Xian, Shenyang, Hohhot, Shenzhen, HK and Macau SAR, Nanjing, Chengdu, and others I can't remember right now). Actually, my business with them has nothing to do with games, but we did get the same people doing both studies and my interests coincided with theirs. I get feedback on that study over a bottle or two of Wuliangye :).

The final conclusion of the study was what I said before: The vast majority of Chinese gamers prefer a game where achievements translate directly into resources (preferably real world) and trading MUST be a major part of gameplay or they drop it after the first month. This is why I think MWO will have a problem adapting to the Chinese market. That is, unless my understanding of the way game economics will work is way off.

Thanks. I'm a lone wolf, though, just so for the time being I can help all three Great Houses against the fedrats. But rest assured that I will not raise my hand against the Liao. That is, assuming my understanding of game mechanics is correct, heh.

Well, anyway, death to the accursed Davion cur and his Lyran *****!

And we await the coming of our great Chancellor, he who shall lead us to glory against the ancient enemy and lead us through the darkness that is to come after. 2014 can't come fast enough...

The revolutionary war is a war of the masses; it can be waged only by mobilizing the masses and relying on them. :)

Former VW pilot here, scarred by the sad leadership that was House Liao on that sorry platform.

Liao is forever the underdog villain in the Battletech universe, it seems. Even in the last EA 3025 beta everyone jumped on the Kurita and Steiner bandwagons. On the board games and in the books it always seems to be about Davion and Marik too.

But the more bad band wagoners jump onto those houses, the more I find myself sticking with the Capellans out of sheer spite. I've grown up quite a bit since the old days, and just the fact that this board isn't completely empty gives me hope for coming success. Can't wait to redden up some panels along side all of you.

Gotta love the underdog.

...also, Godhand is a ridiculous game.

Being Capellan means never having to wait your turn to shoot at the bad guys . . .
