Leveling mechs shouldn't even be a thing but the game is free2whale and PGI loves their grind so it does exist.

Oh yeah, i remember being poor and piloting stock Raven-2X. Never ever has the grind been so painful and slow.

Grinding for Clan mechs is the worst. Not only they are incredibly expensive, I can't sell their XL engine to make some buck back. :(
Even though the Dakka Whale is the best thing I had experienced so far in game, I wonder if the 60+ million C-Bills I grinded to get them + the time spent to master them was worth it...

On the other hand, the Timber Wolf and Storm Crow are pretty damn good, even without elite skills. I bought one of each just to experiment. Hell, I even kept the stock config for the TBR-Prime. It's still an amazing mech.

Leveling is fine to me. I dont see it as a problem or horrible, but that's just my opinion.

Even a mech with no basics is still good (if the mech is good), and I like unlocking the skills that makes it that tiny bit better.

Think of it this way, as your pilot gets more seat time, he can squeeze better performance out of the mech. Once he pilots 3 variants, he understands the chassis even better :).

I will say this though, all that chassis xp that builds up once a variant is mastered does seem like a waste. I wish we could spend it on SOMETHING.

I know this goes against the F2P model, but what if you accumulate 1,000,000 chassis XP, and then can spend that XP for a camo of your choice (just for that one variant). Even a special camo just for 1 mil XPers would be interesting.

Hence the reason why I keep saying to nerf those two. Precisely because they are too good. I bought 3 Crows with C-Bills and I am on my way to buying the third Timbie so I know just how good they are--even with basic skill tree.

On my first game with the Timbie Prime, I legged two running IS Lights with minimal effort--something I do not manage to do often.

On topic: The repetitiveness of the skill tree is also the reason why it is tedious. There should be separate trees for separate weight classes, IMO.

In the CB the Skills were placeholders and if they ever worked they had 5% afair.
In the OB i dont remember if they had already changed some Skills up to ~50% Bonus (doubled eff.) - even if they had it would not have mattered bcs every Mech was unskilled and the pace in general was slower - no DHS, no Quirks, less Mechtypes, more durability (played the Centurion mostly and it was a total different Mech you could not core out in 1 Alpha like today and i speak of 55 front armor).
I had soon enough GXP (or converted XP) to master all my Mechs without going through the leveling chore and did play them for fun only.

Yeah some people have hit it on the head. It's the 3-mech requirement that blows.

If you just had to grind one mech through to master that would be fine. Heck you could even potentially increase the amount of grinding needed. But having to grind 3 mechs ... especially when it's your first mech of that weight class so you have to do both basics and elites on all 3 ... makes things very monotonus, boring, and potentially painful if some of the variants are steaming piles (which many are).

Get rid of the 3-mech requirement and it makes it less of a monotonus grind, it makes it cheaper for new players to get started because they don't have to waste money on mechs they don't want, and you also open up a lot more possible mechs you could introduce into the game without having to make up your own versions that didn't exist in canon.
